Only Nursery here, but weve run kubota for about 20 years, with about 5 currently running. They work good for what we need which isnt real big stuff.

any experience in the hay bidness?

Besides driving hay tractors for my uncle, no. Just pulled the rake while my cousin bailed. Thats all.

They are. Hell the lease options are almost too good to pass up.

Massey

We have a newer Deere that is easier to hop on a ride but as far as work goes the Massey is the best I've ever used.

I don't have a farm or any tractors but Deere is my best customer and I've been to the headquarters many times. That place is extremely impressive. My customers husband handles and cares for all the old tractors that Deere has and rebuilds them for Deere as well.

how many acres did / does your uncle had / have? i'm asking because we currently have 100 acres available to farm and an additional 100 acres available to lease. just wondering if i could eventually make a living off of just farming 200 acres

I work on a farm.

We have john deere, Massy, International, kuhn, and a few others. I pretty much like them all, but the JD and massy stuff is the nicest to use IMO.

You can bale lot of round bales on 1000 acres. Get a bale wrapper.

Last year they were picking up out of field and paying $50 a bale for Bahia grass hay. $100 if you hauled it to Texas.

That will be my retirement job. But not as many acres. Don't want to work that hard.

He could probably make a living on 1000 if he already has most of the equipment

that's what makes farming hard. if you're not already in it, you'll be living behind for a long time.

It's very hard to get into. Most people don't realize how much shite it takes to actually make money doing it.

there's a lot of land to be had as a lot of people are getting out. my dad is getting bigger every year though. could easily double in size if he wanted to.

we were thinking of doing the small square bales. the man that farms the 1000 acres is getting out of only because he's in the hospital more than he is on a tractor. hoping we can just take over from him...he already offered my cousin the equipment, think we can get it on the cheap.
