Have an old 870 16 gauge but having a hard time finding steel shot. Is it worth the time and money to buy a case of 15/16 2 shot or should I stick with the 12 gauge 870?

I'm going dove hunting with it this weekend but trying to decide if its worth spending $350 on shells for duck season.

Its hard to find 12Ga in the size and shot you want... So that alone worth deter me into sticking with the 12Ga plus its cheaper surprisingly.

I shoot a Browning Sweet 16. Have used it off and on for 35 years. Steel #4 is money! Also the PERFECT upland gun.

I've got a Sweet 16 that I've bought some Boss to shoot in it.

It won't be my every day gun, but when the weather's decent I'm going to make some hunts with it this year.

Most of my grandpa's shotguns were unpopular gauges. Turned out he would buy the clearance shotguns at service merchandise and they rarely had 12/20 gauge shotguns on clearance...

This one's a pawn shop special. I bought it before the bucket thread so I didn't think to test fire it in the store but it's been great so far.

I'm gonna get a case of 4's and send it on a couple hunts after I get my toes wet.

Dad bought me my 870 16 gauge in 1964. Full choke for duck hunting. When I worked, the annual vendor dove hunt would supply the shells which were not easy to locate

Id probably see if the barrel is rated for steel.
I have a few browning superposed that aren't rated for steel.

In certain circumstances I use a Browning 16 ga Citori and love it. We hunt a few creeks in the woods where woodducks scream down them. The 16 ga is plenty to cover the creek and the Citori has a shorter barrel that swings quick to keep up with the woodducks (sometimes!)

It makes for a fun hunt and a quick limit, at which time we often head to the deer stands for the rest of the morning.

If you are looking for nontoxic Boss usually has a good stock of 16 gauge. Pricey but good product, MADE IN USA
