We fished the Taylor Reef and the Pass Harbor Reef. Big nada. Caught one catfish on a new penny cocahoe at the end of the day. The wind was pretty stiff.

There must have been a dozen or more boats at the Taylor Reef. I only saw two pulling in fish. From what I could tell, they were small trout and the fishermen were using live cocahoes.

I’m gonna fish the end of the reef the next time.

How do you cast a free lined live shrimp? Are you putting it on a jig head or adding weight?

I didn’t free line live shrimp yesterday.

It depends on the depth you’re fishing. If the water is shallow, I may not use a sinker. I usually hook the shrimp in its “horn.”

Even with say 15 lb braid, how far can you cast just a shrimp and a hook? Are they easy to get super close to?

Academy has some sort of bottom fishing rig. Has a weight and a cork that holds the bait a few feet above the bottom. The crimps look like shite though. I cut it apart and crimped the parts on 80lb mono. I'm gonna give it a try this week. Not sure how you can free.line shrimp unless it's dead calm

Triple tail will sight the shrimp and follow it as you free line

Pro tip: use those weighted bass worm hooks

You can get pretty close without spooking the fish. I'd stay at least 15 feet from the fish and cast upcurrent with the intent of drifting the bait close to the fish. Like the other guy said, the fish will see the bait and go get it. I would say that maybe 5 out of 10 hookups resuly in the fish getting twisted up in the crab line or bouy marker. I am not a fan of braided line usually, but I will use it for TT's. Also use a stronger hook that you normally use for trout; these thigs are very strong and normal kahle hooks will get straightened out.
