Agreed.

I don't think they keep as well, but they are some fine groceries.

Love running YoYo's on Mississippi oxbow lakes in March. I take a week vacation and put out about 4 dozen and fish them all day and once right after dark. Usually after that week a buddy and I have enough Crappie in the freezer to last our families all year.

Barfish up yonder refer to white bass and yellow bass. On darbonne lake they are gonna be yellow bass. Too bony and too much red in the meat to be worthwhile

You need to do just the opposite. Once in day and run them all night. Trust me.

I've tried it a few times but the catfish are starting to come in shallow also and you can't keep them baited and ran because of the catfish. I'm after crappie that week and I would waste $30 worth of shiners a night cause of the catfish. Still catch a good many cats during the day but nothing compared to night time.

You might try to Set your shiners about 3-8" below the surface. I've found that if you set them deeper you will catch mostly all catfish.

I’ve always done best for sacalait with the shiner just under the water, and catfish from there down to a foot or so. Seems like every time I’ve set a deep line it just gets hung in roots.

How exactly do you set up a crappie yo-yo. I’ve read about it many times and never asked

For sacalait, set the shiner JUST deep enough for swivel to be in water.

Too deep. What will happen is you will have a lot of bait missing and not notice cause they won't set off yo-yo.

Only difference between setting for crappie and for catfish is depth of the bait IMO. If you hook the shiner barley through the top of the back it’ll stay alive for a bit. Set just under the water and it’ll splash around. Hear a sound like someone slapping the water with an open hand followed by “ZIINNNG”. I know what I’m doing soon.

I love catching white perch on yo-yos. I’m actually planning a trip to come North right now.

Soon as the cypress are in full bloom the yo-yos go in for the cats. Perch is one yank out on the spool when the bait hits the water and cats are 3 yanks is my rule.

Yellow bass are the size of a bream on average Not much meat once you trim the red. Much better fish to eat out there.
