Any Kayakers out there?

Me and a couple of buddies all bought kayaks and are starting to explore south Louisiana.
Any suggestions on where to geaux? We have hit the Tickfaw river, which was fun. Also, looking at Thompson's Creek, Bayou Sarah and Atchafalya Basin.
In other words, we are starting a little kayaking group. We will organize about a trip a month, maybe twice per month......with frequent exercise sessions to the LSU lakes.
Anybody want to come along? Anybody have any suggestions?
Where Y'ak?

I have kayaked in the Amite a few times. Seems like it would be pretty cool to explore some of the smaller waterways in South La

I've been all over. You tried the east atchafalaya protection leve? Little Alabama? Lake Penchant area? Lake Boeuf area? Bayou Chevreille? Bayou Black? Lake Chicot? Cane Bayou? Transponder point?
ALl these have boat launches. Most of the places I go have boat launches but small meandering bayous nearby to get away from all the boat action.
There are 6 different spots on the East Atchafalaya protection levee that I've been to. Get off ramah exit and hop ontop levee and go.

I would be afraid to do this in the bayous of LA. From fishing these waters I've seen too many gators to be comfortable enough to do this.

Nah, gators are just a little curious but always shy away.

I'm in for group trips. Several friend and I just got kayaks a few months ago. If you see a group of 3-4 kids in lsu lakes in yellow kayaks, along with a few adults, that's us.
We've been to Bogue Chitto, atchaffalya(sp?), cow island lake and amite rive from Tiger bend area to Freds. Looking at doing a trip from Port Barre to Breaux Bridge on bayou teche next weekend. Thinking about doing the Tour du Teche and wanted to check the bayou out. All are invited. I estimate it to be about 33 miles.

Alligators will attack people in kayaks. Just google it.

Bogue Chitto or Homochitto rivers
Magee's creek

only problem with those is that you need a shuttle person to park a seperate car downstream.

The gator caution is for real. About 2 months ago I got chased by an 8 footer in my kayak. So don't buy into the "they're more afraid of you than you are of them". Anybody kayaking near gators need to pack some heat.

Anyone ever been on that bayou in the middle of Plaquemine? I think it may be called Bayou Plaquemine. I'm thinking that may be an easy after work trip.

See, I'm not the only one afraid of getting et by gators.

CT ive been wading out with the gators for years and on a biweekly basis plus kayaking and never had one come close to be worried.
CT you are in FL, those gators are different than the ones here or so it seems like.

Outer Banks, NC is some of the best kayaking anywhere in the world. Just thought I'd share.
