Kayaking endeavor from this weekend: Completed the Tour du Teche.
After 50 hours and 130 miles of paddling I finished the Tour du Teche this morning.
It was a tough paddle due to there being no favorable current after the first 20 miles. A lot of the race was flat water and for about 30 miles we had to paddle against the current.
Getting through the floating lillie pads was exhausting in several areas where they covered the entire bayou and were 20-30 yards deep. We hit these areas in the middle of the night which made it hard to deal with.
We had to haul the boats about 300 yards to get around various dams and flood lock systems.
Of the 60 boats that signed up, 28 dropped out during the race.
The stretch from Port Barre to Arnaudville would make a nice paddle if anyone is looking for a new area. About 20 miles with a current and they just cleared all of the trees out of the bayou.

I kayak a lot, but like to sea cycle too. Found a pontoon boat that has characteristics of both. Got one of these from Costco for around $360. They sell em at Walmart too. Mine is a pumpkin color but they come in olive. Love these things.

Kisatchie Bayou actually has a few decent rapids, considering that we're in LA. Call the Ranger's office to get water levels and what not.
