Shot a good 8pt this eve with my 270wsm but can't find him. He was broad side at around 225yds. I shot and he drops and starts kicking, I start climbing down a few seconds later and see him belly crawling out of my lane into a clear cut. I figure I would give him some time so I go get my 4wheeler and come back. I get down there and look for 2hrs but no blood, no meat, no hair, nothing. Like he just vanished. What the hell could have happened??? Was shooting the 130gr silver ballistic tips.

Were back legs paralyzed? Was he dragging himself with his front legs ?
Sounds like a spine shot too far back to me.

Also , not to preach, but this is why I always reload and put another round in em until they are completely down or they are out of the lane.

He's dead. No exit wound. Go back in the morning and circle the area from the point of the shot and you will find him. I'd bet he's not 75 yards from where he dropped.

I witnessed this very thing a couple of years ago on a hunt in illinois. I drilled a large buck at 30 yards with a slug round and dropped him five minutes before dark. Snow was on the ground and I got five feet from him when I walked out to meet the rest of my party. We were going back to get him with the truck and got back to him not being there. No blood on the snow and it was dark. Luckily, we walked almost on top of him about 40 yards away dead. The inner organs were torn to hell and back when I cleaned him the next morning, but no exit wound.

If everything is as you described he is laying within 100 yds of your shot. Usually (in my past experience) you are not looking in the right spot. Most people are looking closer than the actual shot.

Thanks guys. I couldn't tell if his back legs were paralyzed or not. It was over 200yds and I could see he had his head up belly crawling. I stomped around in that clearcut for almost 2hrs and never found him. Maybe tomoro in the daylight will be different.

You will find him tomorrow. He's definitely dead. If u can locate somebody with a dog that would be optimal, but if you can't you will still find him. Good luck!

+1 on the dog, Hog. I got a chocolate earlier in the year specifically for that. He's tracked 4 easy to tough tracks, and 2 very tough tracks finding small specks of blood for about 750 yards until it ran out. Following behind him tracking is almost as much fun as shooting the deer.

Wait till you catch up to one that isn’t dead yet. That’s some primal shite that starts happening. It’s fun as hell.

Did the same thing about 5 yrs ago, shot one in the food plot....tail twitching really fast, crawled into thicket with front legs, belly dragging. Found no blood....ran circles for four hours, found deer 100 yds away....hit high....no blood trail.

Your deer is dead, guaranteed

If there's is water nearby check there. Wounded animals tend to head towards water. Odds are he is closer than you think.

Temporary paralysis. Should’ve sent more rounds down range. One like that doesn’t need time. Pursue and finish immediately.

This happened to me and the wife this year. She text me that she dropped a doe. I walk over get her then make our way to the deer. It just paralized in its rear legs and starts loosing it's shite screaming and thrashing. The wife lost it too at this point.

That damn deer became still as can be and looked me in the eyes as i shot it with my pistol.

OP - i bet he is dead. Ive had them thrash around but never actually crawl. My buck this year dropped at 175 yards but i could hardly see him in the marsh grass. Then his head pops up moving around so i put one in his neck to be sure.

Shot high and Probably tipped the spine and paralyzed it for a few mins. I had a doe do the same thing one year. She crawled out of the plot when I got there she was a few yards in the cut over and when my light hit her so bailed out of there. never did find her. let my buddy use my gun earlier that month and it came back shooting high. Now if I shoot one and it twitches on the ground I put another round in it.

I shot these for a while and got away from them for this exact reason. Theseer would either melt where they stood or they would run off with no blood trail and pileup in the woods. I'd say there is a very good chance your deer is dead with its insides looking like soup and no blood trail.

I shot a dozen or so deer with silver tips and none left their tracks. Didn't know they had bad reviews herr

They’re pretty bad about not exiting in my limited experience with them
