Ammo Question

I just bough a Smith and Wesson M & P 15-22. The guy at the store told me subsonic ammo would not eject out after a shot I would have to manually eject it. Anyone know if that is accurate?

Even if someone else’s gun ejects subs it’s no guarantee yours will. If you’ve already bought it, why not go find out?

Things labeled subsonic may not. Typically because they are under loaded for suppressor use.
But if you are using a suppressor and care about keeping it subsonic you don’t have to find ammo specifically labeled subsonic for it to stay subsonic.
The standard velocity CCI is labeled 1070 on the box and stays subsonic in my 18” 10/22

I never had a problem with ejections but I recently got a suppressor for my 15/22 and the standard velocity bullets stay subsonic.

You'll need to test which ammo will run well in your rifle.

In general standard velocity is the way to go. It's quiet with a suppressor.

Mine cycles subs just fine. I have a bunch of Gemtech subs that all do great and are very quiet. But honestly the best bang for your buck is CCI standard velocity; it’s cheap and readily available and does fine thru the suppressor without hearing protection needed

Oh yeah? How many rounds have you shot through a chrono?
I imagine you have atleast a few different types to see how different subsonic and “Supersonic” rounds chrono through pistols and rifles?

Yes there are subsonic, suppressor specific, loads that are a little underpowered especially if using standard 36 and 40gr projectiles that will not cycle semi autos.
There are some heavier grained bullets that are subsonic that have enough energy to cycle well but I have not noticed enough audible difference on the pistol to matter and the rifle is not distinguishable at all.

Standard velocity was the original 40gr loading for 22lr. Then they came up with high velocity, which can be more reliable in certain firearms because of the extra blowback pressure. Fast forward to supressors being common, and it was quickly realized that standard is quieter, so simply mark them as subsonic and charge a premium for less. Before people paid extra for high velocity. Now they pay more extra for subsonic, which is simply standard velocity.
Think of light beer vs real beer.
