Amite River catfishing

My son wants to run some noodles or limb lines for catfish. I have never really done much of it, but I live about 5 minutes from Fred's and have access to a 19 foot boat. Was thinking of going up river but looking for any advice with setups, bait, etc....

Make sure to look up what the equipment tagging requirements are now.
In water with a current I use Zote Mexican laundry soap for bait and catch plenty of blues and channels on overnight soaks. Pig liver and garlic works well for me, too. I put an egg sinker and swivel then more linr and a hook about 1 ft down from that on my limb lines.

Ivory soap cut into cubes works great on the upper Amite when the water is cloudy. When it clears up we like cut bait or shiners that we catch ourselves in shiner jugs.
Having said that. I would recommend a short drive to lake Verret or lake Des Allemands as the catfishing has been on fire there. Can easily catch a box full in less than half a day right now.
