Can you enter the Diversion Canal from the Amite River in a bay boat? On Google earth it looks like a lot of obstructions at that intersection. If not, how would one navigate from the Diversion Canal to the Amite river or vise versa?

There is a boat way there just stay between the signs. Or you can go all the way around and through Chene Blanc but I'd just go through the boat way. It is clearly marked.

Yes. there are Chanel markings showing you where to enter. The Chanel is on the south side of the little island.

DO NOT go in any other areas outside the markers. You will run up on the rocks.

There’s about a 20’ wide section to go through via boat.

Its more clear if you have been through it before. Just pay attention your first time through, and you should be fine.

I'm not sure what your plans are but if you are trying to get to the Diversion specifically, I would just launch at either Hill Top or Canal bank. The trip from the Amite from Fred's is a pretty slow ride unless you just want to cruise. Personally, I like the long trip but it sucks if you are at the lake and it starts raining on your way back.

Almost no one uses Hill Top anymore. Limited parking and when the restaurant is open it can be a real bitch to maneuver a trailer around all the vehicles. Not to mention the launch is pretty steep

I welcome the calm ride back on the Amite to Freds after getting beat to shite and back on the Diversion.

Is this a slow ride because of no wake zones or just crowded and curvy?

No wake zones mostly. There isn't typically much traffic on that side compared to what will be on the diversion.

Almost all of the Diversion has bulkheads and boat wakes do not disapate quickly. It can be a rough ride depending on the size and type of the boat

Its curvy but I dont find it to be a slow ride at all. The only No Wake Zones are at the Weir and bridge at Freds

Anyone ever have any luck fishing that rip rap and all the substructure around that? Or any luck in Flat lake on the diversion side flowing in?
