4x4 is one of those things that you can get by without just fine if youre not spoiled to it.

Im spoiled and i must have it

Powpow never had one and he always took care of what he needed to do. Never heard him say he wished he had a 4x4

I just bought a 2012 Lariat with navigation last Wednesday. I got the 2WD with the electronic locking rear differential, and the 5.0 V8. Got right under $11K off of sticker in Baton Rouge. Love the truck.

I view 4x4 much like modern day diesels. 10-15 years ago they had 1/2-1/3 the power of modern day diesels, and pulled the same loads. It is not a necessary for majority of the people who own them but its nice. I have never heard someone say "Damn, I wish my truck had less power" or "Damn, I wish i didnt have 4x4".

But you do hear em say "damn i wish this thing got 22mpg" and "damn i wish this thibg didbt eat tires and tie rod ends"

I really wish the new diesels were more like the old ones. Th old ones (90's) were appealing to me and the new ones arent

As for 4x4, well I dont see myself ever being without it. I see people who dont have it and never did and they dont really complain though. Guess it all boils down to what you like or dont like.

I didn't pay an extra 4k for the looks, but the stance of a 4x4 is so much nicer than a 2wd too

I know you can lift/level for the same effect and save some money, but I wanted 4wd for 4wd, the look is just a bonus

Now I'm second guessing my Ecoboost demand. Talked to a friend who is getting 17 mpg in his 5.0 and that deterred me. Maybe he drives like the bandit.

After 3,000 miles I'm getting about 16.5 MPG out of the 5.0.

Yeah but your taste in trucks is odd. Not bad, odd.

I do agree with the MPG thing though. I do wish that my truck got better MPG but it doesnt. I knew that buying it. I justify it by adding my GFs Mustang to mine (27 MPG) to mine and I get an average of over 20 MPG!

This, but like I said I'd rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

You'll get no argument from me. My first truck was a 4x4 so i was spoiled from day one. Id like to keep the one i have now and get a 2 wheel drive for running around.

To the OP, i'd get the 5.0 over the ecoboost every time. Its been around for a while and its been proven to hold up well. The ecoboost still has a few years before id trust it.

This WILL be my next truck, in White. Toyota can suck on my sweaty nut sack. I just need to decide on 150 or 250.

Pops just got the '12 lariat ecoboost loaded to the max, 4x4, suspension package, all the adders. I used it to pull a heavy arse 16' cooking trailer to TN and averaged 16.5 mpg while towing. Pretty good IMO

Like I said it's mainly about MPG for me. The power differences are negligible because I could pull my boat with a golf cart. The EPA website has only a 1 mpg difference between the ecoboost and 5.0. Guess I need to drive them both.

Get the Ford.

'11 or '12 shouldn't matter unless '12 has a feature or tweak you want. Warranty is the same for both off the lot.

When I bought my '09, I almost settled for a 2wd. Last minute, I changed my mind (truck was literally almost delivered) and had them find a 4x4. I never regretted it, even if I've never really needed to use the 4wd.

I have the 5.0L (XLT 4x4), and it is more than capable for your needs. Just get a Lariat, and call it a day.

Don't buy a truck for MPG.
