Alaska King Salmon Fishing

Looking for package or guide recommendations. I’m reading May/June is the best time for Kings and Halibut. Anyone have any info to share? Thinking a 7-10 day trip to leave some days for non-fishing activities too.

Not sure if this number is still correct but Mike Strahan at 907-229-4501, he runs or used to run an Alaskan outdoor forum, he knows more about hunting and fishing up there than anybody else, I was lucky to have him guide me on a float trip, he will find out what you are looking for and put you in touch with the right person

If you are after Halibut look around Homer. I’d recommend skipping halibut and finding a guide around lake Clark. They fly you out to remote locations each day. King Salmon, lake trout, rainbow, grayling, 40” Northern Pike, etc. Will also get in some bear viewing.

yeah the Halibut really restricts locations. Homer is the best for that.

Kenai River for Kings. Homer or Seward for Halibut.
You might be able to get some kings in Anchorage (Ship Creek, Campbell Creek, Eagle River). You could also go up to the Susitna River to Alexander Creek, Deshka, or Willow Creek.

Might wait to see what they're projecting on runs before committing, if Kings are what you want. King fishing has been restricted hard in some years.
Check out some areas of Homer, or Elfin Cove in Southeast.

Alaska Legacy Lodge in Soldotna. Great guide (Alan Tappan). He has fished the area 25+ years, and is very invested in you catching fish. We went in 2017. The limit on Kings is/was one per person per day. You can catch and release all day long, but once you keep one, you have to stop fishing. Alaska Fish and Game wardens are everywhere. He has nice cabins right on the Kenai River. There is a kitchen cabin for you to cook, but there is no meal service.
Soldotna is 1-2 hrs from Homer and Anchor River area.
Beautiful country. You should enjoy this trip.

The scenery alone is spectacular. Lake Clark is one of my favorite places on earth.

I've gone with a friend that goes every 2 years. His guide was excellent. His preferred guide is Gary. We did the 5 days fishing, 6 nights in cabin package. We went in the end of July which was timed for the Copper River run which is sockeyes.
I don't recommend a trip centered around fishing for Kings. As previously mentioned there are a lot of restrictions and the odds are pretty low.
Alaska River Adventures
They arranged a fly in one day to a remote lake. It was great to fly over glaciers. They also arranged a halibut trip to Seaward.
The lodges are right next door
Eagle Landing
We stayed in the River Lodge Cabin.

That's where I would go if I was in that part of the state.
I know a guy who lives there and I get jelly once he's fishing the Kenai.
Homer isn't far for Halibut.
A local to me fishing group went to Yakutat, AK and made a movie.
They can fish for everything right there.
That's what I have in mind for a trip one day although fishing the world renowned Kenai is on my list.

Always do this.
My local projections are starting to come out and it's worse than last year. Only positive spot will be my local tributary fishing but that starts Sep 1.
The blob needs to go away.
Sea lions need to be curbed.
Cormorants need to be killed too.
Hatcheries need more funding.

Bingo.. it's been pretty crappy. Pretty sure it's hurt the salmon runs
Orcas are also partially to blame for the Kings.
