I know it just came out this past shot show but is anyone looking at these or plans to get one? Anyone get to actually look through one yet? Have any experience with AGM in general?

I been wanting to pick my first thermal and this one is interesting me. I have never used a thermal before, only my ATN 4k pros. I like the physical size (10") and weight (18oz) of it because it will end up on my SBRs so I'd rather not have a 36oz hog or a traditional style that's as long as the rifle. Looking specifically at the 50-640 and will be hunting in a stand 1-200 yards or off my golf cart at a buddies places in Texas. Street prices seem to be 4500ish.

I know I want one.

My youngest Brother worked Shot Shot again this year and of all things he raved about, this was it.

I looked through one yesterday. I also looked through the Rix L6 and L3.

All 3 looked pretty decent but the environment isn't as crisp as the thermion 2 xp50.

Thanks for that info, I was hoping someone had gotten to look through one that has more hands on with thermal images.

Yea I had looked that one up after you mentioned it in the other thread but being 36oz and 16" long it just seems counter productive on a 8-12" sbr. Looked at the Rix too but its in the same boat as the thermion. I keep thinking that since its my first thermal I'm probably going to be blown away but any of them but I also want something nice that I wont have major upgraditus in a year I really probably need to go put hands on one instead of going off specs alone.

So if the thermion image is a OT10 what would you rate the AGM V2 image at?

I can't really give it a rating yet. Would want to see how it does in humidity/shitty conditions and in regular hunting scenarios.

I can talk to some people in a few weeks once they have a chance to get some time behind their demos.

Do they have a lower base mag scope than that? When I had my XQ50 trail (2.7x base), I was always wanting more field of view for scanning. Switched to XP50 trail and very satisfied.

They have a 35-640 that has a 2x base mag. They also have a Clarion coming soon that has 2 OPTICAL adjustments that you can toggle between a 2x and 3x.

Mine is the Bolt tl35 v2. I like it but don't have anything to compare it to.

Here are a couple of snaps from it. The top pic the deer was 90ish yds. The 2nd it was 150yds or so.

I read good things about those bolts. I need to see if someplace in Lafayette has all these brands so I can go handle them. What do you have that bolt mounted on?

Im not shooting at distances far enough to justify one at this point.

I think it depends on where you’re hunting. If you’re hunting your own land where you generally know distances then not that important. If you’re hunting lots of different properties and aren’t super familiar with the land then it’s worth it’s weight in gold.

I don't have my own place to hunt but I go to a co workers a few times a year and that's usually in a stand so not worried about it there. I have started going to another persons place where we ride around on a golf cart or the likes looking for pigs so I could probably use it there but not sure if I want to sped the extra and have the extra weight for that limited use. Its harder to judge distance through a thermal in the dark vs a regular scope during the day isn't it?

Still leaning to the rattle v2 with its size, weight, cost and the fact that I am sure any flavor 640 is going to be the bees knees for someone who has never used one before.

Yeah definitely harder to judge but once you get used to the size of the animal at 100yds vs size of animal at 200yds etc then it gets easier. I think you'll be happy no matter which route you take.

You're in Nola area right?

definitely check out The Night Vision YT videos and the Outdoor Legacy websight. Jason is a friend of mine and is 100% honest. He doesn't want to sell you the most expensive NV optic, just the BEST one for your needs and budget.
