I think a crossbow would be fun to try once or twice, but they should be allowed during rifle season only.

Show me where that has been argued

I bought a Centerpoint Sniper last year. I didn't shoot any deer, but I was flat out deadly on the targets. Per some of the reviews I found, I upgraded the scope. Found it at academy for 310, but Amazon had it for 250ish.

You'll catch hell from the compound bow baws...they despise crossbows because it's not "primitive enough"

Meanwhile, they use compounds that shoot 400fps, rangefinders, binoculars, scent killer, top of the line camo and hunt 30' up a tree.

I don't mind someone having negative feelings about crossbows vs compounds but don't bring being primitive into the conversation.

I bet you think it's a good idea to increase the deer limit in Louisiana too.

you only hate crossbow hunters because you don't like sharing the woods with more people during bow season. I'm glad more folks are having an opportunity to hunt. Mississippi needs a tagging system, though. In Louisiana why does it matter if somebody fills their tags during bow season with a crossbow or during rifle season with a rifle/crossbow.

From an ethical standpoint crossbows are far superior due to their ease of accurate shooting. Those of us who use compound or traditional are putting our own satisfaction in the way of ethical kills. You are far more likely to wound/lose a deer with a bow than a crossbow.

yup, and generally speaking people who hunt for food tend to embrace more effective technology. Why does it matter if a deer is killed with a crossbow or with a compound bow? It boils down to bow hunters being salty about more folks in the woods during October. I bow hunted for 10 years and have killed around 30 deer with a bow and switched to crossbow 2 years ago when my eyes started going south. I didn't magically start killing more deer because i had a crossbow. you still have to know how to hunt.

I have always wanted one to play around with (cheaper than shooting ammo) so a few years back I decided to get one. You had the same budget I did but after doing research I came to the conclusion that a $400 xbow wasn't much different than a $1000xbow. (At least the difference wasn't worth the extra $600. (Buddy of mine owns a shooting range/archery shop. He just said the maintenance, repair, from the extra force in the faster bows make them more high maintenance.)

I still enjoy shooting it but I don't use it as much as I thought I would. Kind of wish I had went with a recurve instead, but I am glad I went with the lower cost one verses the higher cost.

My experience is a few years old also, maybe things have changed a little since then.

Not at all - in fact, I think more strict antler/age restrictions should be implemented.

I don't know how to link old threads but a quick google search with keywords - crossbow, primitive, tigerdroppings..several results.

Crossbows do not increase opportunity at all.

This is correct, unless the hunter is handicapped he has the opportunity to use a regular bow but is just too d@mn lazy to put forth the effort. There is no way anyone can tell me a crossbow is more convenient and enjoyable to practice with than a vertical bow. They're popular because you can shoot it a couple times the week before your hunt to make sure its sighted in and then forget about it until next year. However, it's a non-issue because with the youth/old army man seasons and the single barrel rifle seasons there practically isn't but one weekend of Archery only season in area 2 anymore.

So, for the handicapped, it does increase oppurtunity.

Then his statement is correct.
