Wonder why academy thought they needed to mark them down at such an extreme percentage? Seems like they still would've sold like hotcakes at 50-60% off.

Apparently when they have an item that they have trouble moving they'll mark it down in the hopes of getting rid of old stock, if that doesn't work then they mark it WAYYYY down just to get rid of them which is probably what happened here. If you catch it right Academy can have some pretty insane clearance bargains.

Same goes for some reels I bought a couple months ago. Academy had $599.99 Shimano Antares in left handed models that sat on shelves for years, they marked them down to $359.99 for a few months and still didn't sell. Then they dropped them to $99.99 each and I bought 7 of them.

dick ! Still hate you for that.

BTW, Heritage still makes and sells the 14' Angler. It's not a discontinued model. Academy just isn't selling them anymore which makes this deal i got so much stranger.

I remember when you talked about that deal, and getting pissed. Time hasn't healed the wound.

But yes, academy cycles through their different outdoor categories every few months and basically gives away the old inventory to get the new stuff in. I knocked out about 8 xmas gifts in the clearance rod section. You just have to be quick, I hesitated on a couple rods to use as knock arounds and when I went back the next day all 20 were gone.

That's my one and only gripe with academy. Their prices, selection, and store brands blow everyone else out of the water, but they (perhaps understandably) can't keep up with the local seasons for shite.

In my area of MS peak rut is Jan. 21st, and it usually doesn't really get cold til about then. I went in second weekend in Jan ready to drop a couple hundred and all my xmas gift cards on cold weather camo, doe piss, grunt call, etc. and ended up walking out of the store without buying anything. Zero wool socks even. An entire aisle of predator calls and turkey gear, obviously because the company policy is to gear up for spring after the new year. I actually may look into emailing them about getting their schedule for changing stuff out so I'll be better prepared, cause even with that frustration I can't justify shopping anywhere else.

Same I went in looking for a jacket last week of January and there were zero other than about 3 XXL on the clearance rack.

They started packing up the duck hunting shite during the split.

And while I'm venting they need to figure out a way to keep people from stealing the damn tungsten worm weights.

They haven't re-upped in eight months obviously because people can stuff 50 bucks worth in their pocket and walk off, but their the cheapest off-line place to get them.

Bass holes trespass and steal landowners fish, what makes you think they'll stop stealing a couple weights?

Was just kind of weird that the 14 foot is $150 cheaper than the 10 foot.

They do this once or twice a year. Sometimes can get lucky and get one for less than 100 bucks mid year.

I agree. I'd get a 14' over a 10' all day
