Looking for a sub $1,000 duck gun. Don't need anything that shoots 3.5". Does the Outdoor Board have much experience with either of these? Both shoulder well, so i really just want something that shoots every time I pull the trigger.

The a300 is the unofficial shotgun of the OB. I have one and it has done well. Pretty much everyone that has one loves it.

I think both are unofficial guns of the OB
My brother in law just won an A300 at the LSU DU banquet.
Shot it for the first time yesterday. It functioned flawlesly and he liked it.
He did mention how because he was coming from a supernova he expected the recoil to be less due to the semiauto but that he was surprised that he didn't find that to be the case.
I was as well so I asked to shoot it. I shot it and found the recoil to be much sharper. Similar to how i always thought the recoil on my youth 870 20ga felt. Not a lot of recoil but it was a quick punch that I could see getting painful. My guess is because how light these guns are they have a little razzle dazzle in their recoil.
This is coming from a longtime SBE1 shooter.
With that said it is still a fine gun just letting you know what I thought

Good info. I actually have a supernova as well which I will continue to shoot gobblers with.

Have the franchi, obviously debated btw the two at that price point.
Franchi shouldered better. Have had no regrets- tho I will say for an inertia type system thought it was going to recoil less

Inertia are known to recoil more than gas fwit.
I think because if the weight of these guns throwing some type ofnlimbsaver if the recoil bothers you wouldn't be an issue

It is an extremely light weapon. Bit more narrow than the Beretta.

Well - A300 is at the local pro bass for $579. Makes my decision easy.

I’ve got the al391 urika (the version prior to the a300) and love it. They are supposed to have most of the same features. I had a little trouble with the elevator on mine and sent it to a gunsmith in Maine to tweak it, but since then it’s been a great little shotgun.

I bought my son an A300 last year. Many ducks, geese and a few turkeys have been harvested since. No jams or malfunctions while shooting. The only issue was the finger tab that is use to open the breech fell off and was lost. Beretta sent us a new one right away.

Franchi owner here. Bought 3.5" and camo for $950

Another al390 owner checking in (predecessor to the a300). I've owned it 18 years and not one jamb. I've shot every 2 3/4 and 3" shell know to man and it still performs flawlessly. I can't tell you how many times I've had offers from people to buy that guy from me, but I'll never get rid of it.

Thanks for the input. Will be knocking them down next weekend with the A300

A300 and SX3/4 are some excellent guns sub $1k
Posted on 11/13/17 at 9:10 am to Drive4show
those are both the GOAT sub-1k shotguns for each of their operating systems (gas and inertia). Either would be fine

I shot the Franchi I12 for years. Last year got the beretta. After roughly 4 cases of shells thru the beretta, I'm switching back to the I12. The Beretta is a little to long.
Both guns have performed excellent. Just a matter of personal fit.
