my uncle shot an intruder in the head breaking in from the kitchen window... i wouldn't call him a well trained gun shooter or anything.

not dismissing the miss possibility but that's why 9's have like 15 more rounds...

Yes HEAD SHOT...a 22 can kill you!!!

Congrats on your uncle...the fact is .... a 9 is a weak weapon for stopping power compared to the ones I mentioned...

Law man...just a fact about the liability. Big inner cities don't like to issue larger weapons due to the poorly constucted walls and houseing apartments. They feared that these large caliber weapons could easily penetrate the walls and therefore injure third parties. Sorry just the facts.

You clearly know nothing about ballistics...... the 9mm round is well know for over penetration so if departments had these concerns that would shy away from it.

Unless you can find some facts to back that story, you just pulled it out of your arse.

My .45 couldn't penetrate a stop sign... it was leaving huge fricking dents in it.

IF your telling me a 9mm has more knock down than a 45 you really have no idea what your talking about. Sorry.

If you're telling me the knock down power of a 9mm is insufficient... then you don't know that you got no idea.

You don't have to worry about stopping power if you can put 2-3 shots on em.

Reading some of these posts is why i posted my original thoughts.. Its a pissing contest and the ones with the bigger guns think theirs will be better.

Bottom line, go grab a few different calibers, shoot them, handle them and get something that is fun and you are comfortable shooting. If you run a few hundred rounds down the barrel of that 9mm, you will be extremely lethal with it.

a .22 will stop most home invaders

I wouldn't risk my life or families lives on a .22. Don't get me wrong,I love my .22's and love shooting them but for personal defence I'm going centerfire. At least 147 gr. 9mm hollowpoints.
I still have Black Talons in my stash.

There have been many people killed by 9mm. If you are proficient with a 9mm and so so with 40 or 45 which one are you safer with? I dont get into the whole stopping power ballistics thing. Hit your target. Double tap. Learn how to use your weapon of choice and defend yourself under stress. Personally Im better with my 9mm than any other handgun. I prefer my 9mm with defensive ammo than my 45.

No one would want to get hit with a 9mm with the right type of round in it. Get a good expanding HP and it will stop most anybody.

9mm are easy to handle...recoil is very manageable on a full size pistol frame, which allows for an accurate first shot and an accurate follow up.

This in a nutshell. 9MM has plenty of stopping power on a 200lb human. If for some reason shot #1 wasn't good enough the "very manageable" recoil will make it very easy and possible for the second one to make sure he does.

Great home defense weapon. Are there better? Absolutely. Will this be more than sufficient? Yes. Without a doubt.

Home defense = 12 gauge buckshot, end of story

For those arguing stopping power please read this story of how a man takes, one shot to the chest with a .40 and 4 shots to the chest with a .45 at point blank range and contniues to physically man handle the officer until he was shot in the head with a 45

Temple - Harrison

I have been told that the toxicology reports post mortum were negative
