Admittedly, I'm more of a rifle and shotgun guy, but wanted opinions on which one of the following would be a good all around pistol for home use. Not going to CC, but just to have in the home (wife will want to become familiar with it as well). The list below are the only options currently available to choose from:

Springfield XD 9MM
Taurus GX4 9MM
S&W 9MM

If it is for home use only, get something full size. It will have less recoil and higher ammo capacity. I am a glock fan, so i would say glock 17 or 47.

That Taurus is a fantastic cheap gun, I checked out the Springfield in the store and wasn't a huge fan. If it's primary use is home defense then don't overthink it, get a Glock 17. If you're in a budget the full size PSA Dagger can be had for dirt cheap. I picked up a PSA Compact (G19 size) about a month ago and love it after about 400 rounds.

Is the SW a shield or the sdve?
If it’s a shield I would go shield if it’s a sdve I would go Springfield.

Those older model XD pistols are great. Accurate and reliable.

Taurus is junk (bring on the hate. Other than the M9 clone, they're junk)
I think Taurus GX4 is their micro-compact CC. You don't want that.

S&W 9mm - if it's the Shield, that's a CC pistol. If it's the SD9, those are junk.

This. The Taurus mentioned by OP is a micro-compact. I would go with the closest thing you can to a full-size pistol if you don't intend to conceal carry and want to keep it around the house. A full-size will be easier for you and your wife to shoot and will generally have a larger capacity.

Havent shot their 9mm but their 10mm is awfully unreliable. One of the worst striker 10mm.

Bad feeding issues.
