To echo Kengel and Downshift- the heavier round has more momentum, thus giving more umph downrange.

But, accuracy and what works for you really depends on the gun- I shot probably 5 or 6 different factory loads over a number of years before I found that my gun likes the Winchester rounds.

As to the sighting question- I zero everything I have at 100 and know the ballistics from there. I keep a graph notebook with all the guns I have and how they shoot with the round I'm currently using. I find it makes it easier for me. Downshift will know there is one specific member of my family that thrashes me for this, but it's what I do.

On to my success with the round discussed- the below picture is the 150 gr. Ballistic Silvertip bullet from a smaller 8 pt. shot at 80-100 yards in January. I'll normally shoot a little low since I don't like walking to find them- I figure they can't go very far on two broken legs and a hole in their heart. It rendered the front quarters useless, and was just about to exit the off side. Deer fell about 20-30' from where he was hit. That's been pretty typical for me with the round.

Again, a lot will come down to what your gun will like, but I do think the heavier bullet pays off in the conditions we have in the South for whitetail.

The winchester ballistic silvertips shoot great out of my browning a-bolt 7mm rem mag. Shot a hog at 180 yds blew the lung out the other side of the sow

I did buy some barnes 150 grain ttsx to make some hand loads but haven't bought any 7mm rem mag brass yet.

I really like Hornaday in my Buffalo classic. So, this round makes me want to try them for the 7 mil.

But, I'll give the silver tips a try. I'm going to wait for it to cool off a little before I go find my zero.

Thanks to all for y'all's help.

I always liked that scope- I have a VX-2 on my 45-70 and it's one of the best pieces of glass I have- but surely not the most expensive one.

Looked through it out of the front door the day I got it as the sun was setting.

Drew in tons of light. This thing is sweet.

This Sunday may be cool enough to go send some down range.

Winchester powermax 150gr. And it has crushed every deer shot with it. Love them just hard to find them

That's right. And when did Glock come out with a 7mm Mag anyway?

Does the 7mm damage alot of meat? I hear that the heavier bullets like 160gr+ wont do as much damage. Is that true?

Im guessing you wouldnt want to shoot one with a 120 gr at 50yds.

I've seen them make a clean pass through a deer at 150 yds, and not ruin front shoulders.

I've also seen them take out one, or both, front quarters. Not sure of the load or grain my buddy was using in his though.

Odd coincidence, I very recently picked up a Weatherby 7mmRM with almost the exact scope.

I have a Weatherby 7MM so I have to shoot their bullets. I shoot these. I have no idea if they are good or not according to people. But every single deer I shoot at with them fall over deader than shite

Nosler partitions are very good bullets.

I've just seen too many instances of no exit wound. from my perspective, it's a DRT or incredibly difficult tracking job, no in between. We don't lose a lot of deer, but the ones that we have, have always(90%) been ballistic tips.

I do however understand that they can be devastating.

I like a bullet that expands, but also stays together as much as possible.

IMHO

Love them.

I shoot Federal vital shok 160 or 165 grain Nosler partitons.

Have taken elk at 300 yards and whitetails 60-200 lbs any where from right under my stand to 300 yards.

I have not had to track an animal more than 70 yards and 90% crumple on the spot.

Shot placement is key for not ruining meat.

I like the fact that if I need to I can shoot through a front shoulder on deer and still do major internal damage

The problem with partitions is they're expensive and many rifles don't like them. If your gun will shoot them well than they're a fantastic bullet. It's just pretty easy to find a rifle that's too picky to shoot them well. They're inherently poorly balanced and difficult to make.
