When you run into a stationary object, there is a presumption that you are at fault.
Clearly the captain here failed to maintain a proper lookout.

This ain't the tiger rant bro, hitting a platform is fricking retarded

First of all, how did they hit the drilling rig on top of the platform? Even the top of the tower would likely be at least 30-50 feet below the rig. I'm thinking they hit the platform, not the rig.
Secondly, I've been fishing offshore my entire life.
Hell we typically back down on platforms and catch snapper in a fricken Hatteras 60 all the time. We have never hit the platform. We have never even had a rigger or the top of the tower hit. Literally done it hundreds of times. I can't count how many times we have pulled tuna/billfish off platforms and never once hit the platform. It's not that hard to throttle in and out of gear to hold the boat off the platform while the angler fights the fish. If shite gets dicey, guess what? you pull off of the platform and if the line snaps, so be it. It's just a tuna. We have lost marlin pulling away from the platform, that'll make u sick. But it'll also save you a $2 million boat.
Dude was incompetent and should be fired. No excuse, he hit the platform, and sunk a $2+ million vessel.

I did not sink a 2 million dollar vessel this past weekend. I just quoted what the owner said on The Hull Truth, which is also where I got the picture.
You may be able to find him there.

We know you didn't sink it, you couldn't back it down the ramp much less drive the boat.

Well, I know who won't be fishing with me anytime soon.

I would live to hear the conversation going on in that tuna school.
How can you tell if a boat mount is the actual boat or a fiberglass replica?

My captain is in a tough position. He is a great guy- honest and hardworking. Very capable and having safely navigated this boat well over a thousand miles in the last two months. Tough.
This is the part that gets me. We are not talking about some rich n00b out their being a dipshit!

This is like the 4th or 5th time that joke has failed already in this thread. Give it up.

its a fricking question, not a joke. has it been answered?

I thought it was going to be an inexperience deal too. I've had the boat owner take wheel and he bumped a rig twice and ran aground once pulling into pirates cove. So I figured it was along those lines. But fighting a fish for 20 minutes and drifting into a platform and nobody on the boat saw what was about to happen is mind boggling.
