do yalll like the fusion for deer?

I've heard a lot of people that like them, but my dad had really bad luck with them last year.

He shot a doe with a 30-06 that he said he knew buckled from the shot. We looked all over, never found blood or any signs and just teased him for missing.

A week later shot a nice buck with fusions quartering away. Saw the buck run across the power line with it's head in the dirt from a broken shoulder. Never found blood or any signs other than it dragging itself. Finally found the deer 45 minutes later still no blood.

During skinning it we learned that it clipped a bone and dumped all of it's energy and no part of the bullet made it passed the center of the deer's chest.

I'm sure he also killed the doe the week prior but the bullet probably did the same thing.

So now he has a $50 box of target ammo because he went and got something different that day.

This board told me this couldn't happen with a .30-06 and a 6.5cm is the only caliber where a deer could run off....

If you are shooting out of a gas gun (assuming AR) I would sure want an adjustable gas block on it.

Yea I will have a adjustable gas block on it for sure. I might just sit on the sidelines for a few months since its just coming out and see how it shakes out.

My .270 and 35 Whelen like Fusions just fine.

Shooting ELDX out of my 6.5 CM this year. Hoping to get a cow with it in a few weeks.

Be aware that the ELDX within 250-300 yds will grenade like a ballistic tip and most likely will not give you a pass through nor blood.

I know. That's why I've been looking for some Peak ammo. I've gone back and forth on whether to use my .270 or .35 Whelen. All would be fine for a cow.

We'll have a 28 Nosler with us too, so I'll have that option for a far shot.

I shot several deer with fusions from a 270 and it was great. I shot one deer with 140 fusions in a 6.5 creed and I found a few spots of blood but never recovered the deer, that buck was killed a week later with an extra bullet hole behind the shoulder about 200 yards from where I lost blood. I don’t really know what happened and I wasn’t there to dissect it but it was enough for me to not try that one again. I couldn’t even imagine what would have to happen to the bullet for that shot location to not be fatal. So much so that I’ve just accepted that whatever happened is highly improbable and I probably couldn’t recreate it.

I’d killed 6 deer before that one with a 143 eldx and didn’t like the inconsistent exits. I’ll deal with that, every deer I shot with those was super dead. I’m trying the 155 fusions in the peaks now, hopefully I can report back on those.
