I like the fact that with the .280AI you get near the performance of the 7 mag without mag recoil. From what I've read its similar to a 308 or 30-06.

Yeah that Xbolt is nice. I have an Xbolt Medallion in .270WSM and love it will probably be adding one of these to the collection as well.

I've been shooting a creed since I couldn't get reloading components for my .308 after sandy hook. So I guess that's about 5 years?

It's a great round I do have a very customized rifle but I have taken whitetail out to 480 yards, a boar at 980 and can punch paper with it with no wind out to 1500. However if there is wind and wanting to make long shots past 1000 you want a heavier bullet. Hunting under 1,000 yards I wouldn't want anything other than a creed.

That being said the popularity of it bothers me I like to shoot 3-400 rounds a month and the more popular the harder to get reloading components so I may end up changing guns in a few years.

For this discussion I love the creed and can't speak highly enough about it. The .308 offers more options but both are excellent choices.

How is your barrel holding up? I was under the impression the barrel would be shot out after ~3,500 rounds. Where are you? I wish I could shoot 3,600 - 4,800 rounds a year especially at those ranges. Need a shooting buddy?

.308 WIN. My son killed a couple of truckloads of deer with the round as a youngster. I watched many of those kills. Impressive.

For the poster considering the AI, only if you are going to hand load. Factory ammo has been loaded weak, historically.

Go 280AI and run. You can shoot 280Rem in a pinch. What you said is correct: 7mag performance with 30-06 recoil

I have both. The Creedmoor is a badass whitetail round but I would have reservations about taking an elk with it. If I were going elk hunting I would at least step up to a 300 win mag.

6.5 creedmoor all day. I have one and it's a beast whitetail gun. Ive never shot a deer that made it out of sight before dropping. Usually they run about 20, maybe 30 yards and that's all they make it before falling. It's definitely my favorite rifle out of all the ones I currently own and all the ones I've ever owned. I also have the 6.5 Grendel but have no idea what it's worth on deer because I can't put my creed down to pick up the Grendel. I'd shoot elk with it too, given the opportunity. There's just no way it wouldn't be sufficient with a well placed shot, and well placed shots aren't hard to achieve given the accuracy and low recoil of the gun.

Want to hunt deer and elk with it

If limited to deer only, I'd say either cartridge. If hunting elk is a possibility, then I'd say 308 Win every day of the week. I'd use at least a 165 gr or possibly a 180 gr controlled expansion bullet (e.g. a Nosler Partition). Remember, a bull elk may be 5X bigger than a typical AR/LA whitetail deer. While the 6.5 Creedmoor is a fine cartridge, sometimes around the OB it's developed near mythical status. Ballistically, it's basically a 260 Remington. I'm not aware on any knowledgable elk hunters who recommend a 260 Rem/6.5 Creed over the 308 Win. The 260 Rem/6.5 Cree are fine deer cartridges. In fact, I deer hunt w/ an XP-100 handgun in 260 Rem. But if I'm going elk hunting, I'll not be using my 260.

That's a nice looking gun. Keep us updated. The 26 Nosler has a LOT more horsepower than does the Creed.
