Savage A22. Semi auto .22 mag. I have killed a few hogs with it. Including my biggest with a heart/lung shot

With a .22lr its about the equivalent of shooting a deer with a howitzer. Even with fmj they often look like you smashed their head with a hammer.

FWIW I have a .22lr bolt action Marlin rifle that’s at least 50 years old and has probably never been cleaned and it shoots flawlessly.
I should clean it.

.22 mag > .17 when it comes to horsepower.
inside of 100 yards it is, but past 100 the .17 has more energy and is far more accurate

I shoot cci game points and it usually punches a clean hole in a squirrels head.

If you want to find the pig get at least a .223 man. I wouldn’t shoot a pig with a .22 or a .17 and expect to find it.
Yes I know it can be done.

I want the most effective caliber I can bring with me on public land that is legal for squirrels

22 mag
dont shoot anything at 100 yds with either a 22mag or a 17
a hog in 40 and a head shot is no problem a small one in the vitals is also a goner.
