Looking at one for sale. Has 15k miles, brand new 6.2 engine. Anyone experience the troubles with these 6.2's?

The motor will likely blow up around 50k-60k miles
ETA: This is the last year of the 6.2 as GM doesn’t know how to fix the motor.

They don't go to 20k, better have the extended warranty.

Isn’t that the engines that are locking up due to cylinder mgmt system? and if the engine doesn’t blow up the transmission might.

I wouldn't buy a single GM/Chevy product with a V8 right now.

Baw has already replaced the engine once and trying to sell it before replacing it again

I have a 6.2L in “Blondie’s” ‘23 Yukon, GMC has extended the engine warranty to 10yrs/150k miles. It currently has 56k miles, hasn’t had any issues.

You can make them somewhat respectable, allegedly, by rebuilding them with all non-GM aftermarket improved parts - new crankshaft, new crank bearings, new rod bearings, new oil pump and pickup tube, new camshaft, new lifters (old style that deletes DFM), and new pushrods. Plus you have to half the GM recommended oil intervals and run 5W-40 oil instead of that watery 0W-20 they originally recommended. You do all that and it might not blow up for 100k miles. Don’t do any of that and they typically last 5-50k miles.
From what I’ve read, most independent reviewers say if you must get a GM truck due to some stupid reason, get the 4-cylinder turbo max.

im about to make 100k on my 2023 6.2 but its been running a little rough lately. wouldnt surprise me if it blows up soon. but I did get hit by the transmission valve body at around 70k.

Your torque converter is also on borrowed time.

So buy a $60k truck then put $20k in it to make it last 100k miles?
Hmm

Are the 4cyl turbos decent? If not chevy/gm what do you recommend? I guess that leaves toyota or ford

Yes, but you still have to deal with GM/Chevy Transmissions which have been problematic lately. LINK

Id stay FAR away from Toyota. They still cant figure out the new engine issues. LINK
Its crazy to say this outloud, but if I HAD to buy a new truck, it would be a Ford or Dodge. Yes Ford has had a ton of recalls lately, but none of them catastrophic engine or transmission issues. Same with Dodge. Recalls, but either instrument or trailer module issues. While the Chevy/GM problem has been going on for YEARS with the 6.2 or any of the active fuel managment issues.

I agree with this for 1/2 tons. If you were shopping 3/4 tons you can add GM back to the mix as the 6.6 gas and 6.6 duramax aren’t bad.
If you want to buy a reliable 1/2 ton gas v8 GM, you pretty much need to stick to mid 2000s models, but those will be old as shite and beat to death and the shocks and bushings you’ll need to make it road worthy will probably cost more than the value of the truck.
If you want to buy Toyota, don’t buy 2022+. Stick to the 2021 and earlier V8.
If you want to buy a used ford 1/2 ton, do not buy 2017-2022 because the transmissions are dog shite unless it’s been properly rebuilt with 2023++ parts.
New 1/2 tons stick to Ford and Ram. Heavy duty trucks buy whichever you like.
