I think it is best to “open carry” at a boat landing….particularly if alone. I would check with law enforcement to be sure he is allowed to have a pistol at his age, though.

Remington TAC-14
To those concerned about legality, these are perfectly legal even though the barrel is less than 18 inches. They get through the law because they are not a “shotgun” because they are not fired from the shoulder. They are just a “firearm” under the law. Being over 26 inches overall dodges another law.
Boy the politicians and laws are stupid, eh? Can’t have a shotgun with a barrel less than 18” because it’s too easy to conceal, but take the butt stock off the same gun making it way easier to conceal and that is OK. How has the USSC not bitch slapped the NFA, GCA, and all related nonsense is hard to fathom.

The correct answer has been given
n Louisiana, an 18-year-old can legally possess and open carry a handgun, and may also carry a concealed handgun without a permit, provided they have no felony convictions and are not otherwise federally prohibited from possessing a firearm

When going down to the Shell Beach or a few other areas the quickest route is through part of the hood in New Orleans.
He’s an elite kayak fisherman and goes out towards New Orleans east to launch to fish the tressels.
It’s a little sketchy there for a 20 year old by himself.
He currently drives a 14 year old little SUV and I can’t have him without self defense

As long as he's only carrying in LA he can possess anything is olds without CC permits can. I gifted my oldest my S&W shield when I bought myself the 2. He got delayed on his first AR purchase so I bought it and "gave" it to him.
He is currently stationed in Virginia and isn't allowed to possess either until he is 21. He did buy some 30rd mags so that they will be grandfathered in when their new high-capacity law starts on the 1st.

Socialist are so stupid, their new law will be shot down by the supremes with haste. Maybe Va should just have a character test for high capacity mags?

I just learned that in TN an 18yr old can apply for a concealed carry license.
In TN there are two types of concealed carry.
Regular concealed carry and enhanced.
Not completely sure what the differences are but enhanced requires an 8 hour handgun course. I've seen that you must be 21 for enhanced but I don't see that requirement on the state website.
Regular permit requires a 90 minute online course.
My son is working on his application now.
