What are the "must have" baits for an outing of this kind?

from my experience with marsh fishing, all you have to do is throw a shrimp in the water and you will catch something

saltwater fishing is retard proof

probably about 4 months of the year when this is pretty true. It gets tough when you're burning 30 or 40 gallons chasing fish around the bays and barrier islands.

Meh, Usually my last resort if none of my plastics are biting. It's not nearly as fun as catching on swim baits, spoons and other hard baits obviously.

Ive got gold and black spoons on deck. Also have corks, jigheads, "redfish special" spinnerbait and some other random shite from my trip to Gulf Shores this past summer.

ETA: Also top dogs, mirrolures, etc.

Sounds like some of the bass tackle might work?

Guarantee you would catch something with a bass buzz bait

popping cork with any type of plastics and colors depending on location, time, and water conditions obviously. Cacahoes, shad, sparkle beetles, dead, live or imitation shrimp (Vudu is pretty money). Bottom would be spoons gold or silver, swim baits, spinner baits, suspending twitch baits or something like the catch 2000 by mirrolure. Baits are important but being where the fish are is even more important. If you can catch em at the right time, almost anything will work TBH

I bring way too much gear and poles, all I've ever really needed was a gold spoon. I bring 3 weedless gold spoons in case I lose one. Never leave home without them.

Absolutely, I've caught reds on a buzz bait frog.
This one to be exact:

I'd shake your hand. It's just about being in the right spot at the right time. Work the tides, points, wash outs, bait, and you're just as good as the next guy.
