pretty awesome story.

101 year old MS deer hunter

Using the OB favored caliber:

quote:

Vickers was happy with the blind and its location, but not with her .243 caliber rifle.

"It's a real good place to sit, but after I had bad luck, one of the boys brought me another gun," Vickers said. "It's a 7mm-08. I'd seen the gun shoot and knew it would hit."

quote:

"I decided to wait for a bigger one," Vickers said. "Before long, a bigger doe came out and I shot.

"Then I saw two deer on the ground. It shot plum through both of them. They both dropped right there. They didn't take another step. I knew it was back there, but I didn't realize it was that close to her where it could get shot.

.243 is a fantastic deer rifle. That is a fact and if you argue otherwise its probably because you're a poor shot.

Do you see anywhere in that post where I said anything at all negative about the .243?

Please tell me where you saw my language knocking it.

Even an 101 yr old lady wouldn’t shoot a .243

I think he was using "you" in the general sense of anyone reading it, it wasn't a personal attack.

My great grandfather quit hunting because of my great grandmother.

She would outshoot him and always kill. He finally just gave her the gun

I can only hope to be doing that at that age....or even still alive. Hats off to her.

It’s really not. There’s not much room for error. Seen many kids wound animals with not finding them using a .243.

Should probably just be used for squirrels.

There once was an old lady in north La, close to where I grew up, she ran a general country store. Think Josey Wales old lady. She had snipered more deer from that country store porch than any 5 male hunters we know. Not to be trifled with when Granny got her gun.
