Per wikipedia…

She was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2023.

Bode miller comes to mind.

Probably the greatest American skier of all time with only one gold medal to show for it

Pretty incredible Olympic moment. Dominating with all the pressure on her. Instead of dwelling on that pressure, the first thing she thought about after the race and spoke about during the interview was her dad who passed away. Then NBC showed a close up of her after she crossed the finish line and you can see her mouth “Dad”

As a parent, that hit pretty hard.

Think Dan Marino. Really good when younger. then never got to the top of the big game but was great in the regular season. Unlike Dan, Mikaela won the big game at the end of her career.

We need to do a fail ranking at some point for shite takes.

Top three i can think of:
Shiffrin over hyped
Ledecky washed
Skenes flop in the minors

she won her first gold medal at 18.

and she's won 3 gold medals in 3 separate olympics.

not sure how the dan marino analogy works...

Winning an alpine ski race is really freaking hard. Even just one minor mistake, you’re probably cooked. And it’s really easy to make a mistake.

Especially the speed events where you only get one run.

Great in the regular season. She has a record for most non-Olympic wins in skiing. Admitidly weak analogy, but it was the best I could come up with.
