Per Jordan Chiles, the medal has been lost in a tragic boating accident.

wonder how Comaneci thinks this will affect Chiles' mental health? Or is the Romanian's mental health the only one that she cares about?

Award two bronzes and everybody walks away happy.
This makes the most sense so of course the IOC won't do it.

Actually to me if it really was a clerical error with Chiles starting score, then two bronze's should not be awarded. It's not a judgment error, but a math/clerical one. Pretty cut and dry.

The error with Chiles isn’t the first time this Olympics she had that same error in scoring. She never appealed or tried to correct it til this time.

I love gymnastics as it's just breathtaking what those athletes can do...
I also hate how arbitrary the whole scoring system is. Bias in the sport has been around since forever.

Even if true I don't see the relevance.

Just historical relevance, I am not sure when it was noticed and why it was never appealed prior.

Her coach said (on social media I believe) that they noticed the mistake in start value in both qualifications as well as the team event, but didn't appeal it because the bump up in scoring wouldn't have changed anything in either of those cases. They did appeal in the event final because it would change the results.

Romanian gymnastics put out a statement, asking for people to stop harassing all of the gymnasts at issue, including Nadia. Some people have lost their minds in this saga.

How can an adjudicating body refuse to re-look an issue if new evidence is presented?

The stupidest thing about this whole ordeal, is that if everyone was scored correctly from the get go, this Romanian would’ve finished 5th. The least deserving gymnast will be awarded the bronze. Make it make sense.

Seems to me that the CAS needs to be ignored - feels like an illegitimate body.

Why would the Romanian even want the bronze medal she knows she didn't win. Pretty odd.

At this point, I don't think Barbosu is pushing for any of this. She's just caught in the middle. The Romanian Gymnastics Federation is pushing, but they requested all three gymnasts get bronze, which can't happen due to the rules. No one wins, here, it seems.

Exactly. If I’m Chiles I ain’t giving up shite. She scored higher and she won. Period.

The other Romanian, Voinea, is actually the one that scored highest and got screwed with a bogus deduction, saying she went out of bounds but she didn't. That's why I'm saying, no one wins here. No matter how this is resolved, it now appears that it will be wrong.
