People have put down the Paris olympics but other than that one event at the opening ceremony that mocked Christ (I get it, very bad screw up most definitely and I agree) I thought the rest of the Olympics were phenomenal.

Probably not a popular opinion but that's my honest opinion.

Looking forward to LA 28

LA and Paris bid just them 2 and they gave both. It is extremely expensive and has ruined prior cities financially. LA was able to put up an actual profit on the 80s olympics, so they felt they could do it again.

This Summer Olympics was probably the best I’ve seen and the most I’ve watched since London 2012. I wish NBC would do a closing montage with Ode To Joy like ABC used to back in the day.

1984 Closing Montage

And now I found the BBCs closing montage from 2 hours ago and I want to cry.
BBC Paris 2024 Closing Montage

Security will probably be the biggest cost.

Big night for millions of Drive fans. I heard Kavinsky played Nightcall.

You could argue that WWII was all about art. The Nazis rampaging throughout Europe to steal art, then the Western Allies recovering the stolen artworks as they marched towards Berlin.

Yeah. The genocide and stuff was really kind of secondary to the….art

LA will be using existing structures so that will help.

I was watching something earlier that said LA basically got it because no one else wanted it.
I was just reading up about the history of the LA Olympics. They got the '32 games by promising to build the Coliseum. People thought it would fail because of the depression and in a remote location from Europe but it was successful.

'84 was awarded despite the state refusing to spend any money. They ran the last Olympic Games to be in the black without government help. They built very few new venues and used USC/UCLA dorms as the Olympic Villages.

'28 was awarded as a compromise when both LA & Paris were finalists for this year. I believe future Olympics will be prior hosts who still have the infrastructure or multiple cities/whole countries. Italy is using the multi-city model in '26. LA is using existing venues. The same for the SLC Winter Olympics in the '30s.

I might be alone here but Jimmy Fallon was insufferable during the broadcast. He’s actually gotten more annoying over time.

My hopes were higher than an extended cut of the LA28 part of the closing ceremonies. It's one long infomercial complete with an infomercial sounding Venus Williams.

It's also pretty pathetic that they aren't giving us the actual names of the venues. I agree with them not keeping corporate names for the Olympics but when you're introducing Americans to the venues it would be nice to know more than SoFi. No freaking clue whose arena is being using for gymnastics. No clue who's basketball arena is being using. It's just a massive fail not to give us some clue.

Do you mean the names or which arena is hosting which event?

Tom Brady, Venus Williams, Daniel Craig, Snoop, Martha Stewart, that's just some I can name off the top of my head in Paris.
