She has three events left and has not even hinted at quiting. Just needs to get her head straight and lay down a good run. I think she ends up taking gold in the combined.

Chinese man made snow is good for snow cross. You go faster. It’s in events where major carving around turns that it hurts. It dissolves into ice and shite with more and more runs. It’s harder to hold your carving. You can slip out easily. They should sharpen their edges to the max. That happened with our 6’7” downhill guy that was having a killer run and got clipped by a rift in the snow. He was by far the fastest, but just had bad luck. It’s happened to me before. A bunch of our skiers are from the east coast, so they are used to it. Just saw a guy recently from Michigan. Another grew up in CT (although that was hitting a jump straight on)

What other events is she competing in. She can make up by placing in the other 2

I grew up skiing the runs in North Carolina so the rare times I have been in the West or Europe with icy conditions I looked like a god for a minute.

The problem with ice is there is no progression of bite it is close to all or nothing. As you rotate your edge into the ice you get initially get very little bite then all of a sudden it is like you are on a rail. It is just really hard to ski fast and if you do every attempt at carving is a recipe for disaster.

Someone trying to win a race in icy conditions will hone the edges to razor blades, I always grabbed my worst prepped skis with shitty wax and knicked edges. They were slower and actually seemed to give me more control with setting the edge but I wasn't trying to win a medal just eke out some enjoyment in less than stellar conditions.

Yea, I grew up on east coast skiing in the NE. Many smaller resorts southwest of VT relied on man made snow. Shiffrin grew up in Vail. Might be a small problem for her. These other guys that grew up in the NE can handle it better. People in other countries have dealt with it too growing up. It’s usually fine until it gets worn down. They should blow snow in between events and take the snow cats to them. Even if it’s only a few inches. You won’t have hundreds of amateurs making runs destroying it

A lot of people don’t continue to sharpen their skis. They are good about waxing them usually. I used to wax my skis with an old shitty iron I picked up at a garage sale. I would do it every 4-5 trips to the slopes. My original twin tips got so bad edge wise I could barely cut anymore, and those 1080’s were amazing for cutting. I finally had to get new ones, but they were shite compared to the 1080’s. That stuff really matters when buying new skis

Just read, but I think she only has one more event. Feel bad for her. She should have placed in all 3. Hopefully some fire in her makes her win gold in the next one

As a side note, we should get some black people in Cross Country skiing

I would love to see it, but it seems she has a better chance to DNF at this point.

These are two components of one event with one set of medals for the best combined time over the two runs.

It is the obvious best chance for her, but she hasn't competed in downhill since the beginning of the season, and hasn't trained for it, so she isn't a lock by any means. Brignone is my pick to win (if Shiffrin doesn't).

Shiffrin has a good chance in Super-G, but again, no lock even for a podium. She's good (our best by far) in the event, but so are a few other women.

Watch Goggia in the downhill. She's returning from an injury, and some think she's returning too quickly because hey it's the Olympics. If she's ok, she's the fastest.
