From what I have heard from actual family that are fisherman is that some were compensated and some were not. And some were only compensated partially what they should have been compensated.
i bet you they didn't keep accurate records or file their taxes properly. that is not BPs fault

you're being lied to
fisherman in CAMERON are getting paid losses from guys from the east fishing their waters and for some waterways being shut down

From what I've heard, a lot of fisherman are not getting paid bc they cannot provide tax documents to verify what they made. I wonder why they do not want to provide tax documents....
bingo
they don't have good tax and/or trip ticket records
the majority of this is due to their desire to avoid paying taxes (either doing cash transactions off the books, or just simply not reporting income)

The fisherman are being paid for there lost season and with the exception of maybe crabbers all should be back to work next season. The oil industry is possible looking at a much longer down turn, the amount of $ lost will dwarf the total cost of this whole spill
How is the seafood industry and oil industry even related in this conversation? The seafood industry was shut down because of an oil spil while the oil industry was shut down because of the president and his staff.
I mention something about seafood and people jump in and say how much more the oil spill industry will hurt over this. There are two seperate cases.

Do you work for BP or know this firsthand?

Again do you work for BP? I know how my situation played out and several others. How do you know you know you aren't being lied to by BP? Do you actually believe all of their commmercials?

i just spent a week with about 40 fishermen who are affected by the oil spill and i asked most how bp was handling the claim. all said that bp wasn't giving anyone with records trouble
they were just bitching a little that bp isn't paying as much now, b/c bp paid many a ton early on and isn't paying that much now
they're also mad b/c they want to take the bp money AND fish (double dipping), and some have lost their bp claim for it. these people feel they're entitled to max out the money no matter what the underlying equity is

nope. i work in the field who sues the BPs of the world. i was trying to gather information on how valuable a suit would be (and for everyone who wants to try to get me in trouble, these are all current clients of another situation so no ethical rules were violated)
as of now, i'm staying as far away from a BP suit as i can. with the offset from the amounts paid, the recovery will be shite and it will take for fricking ever to sort this out
defense firms are going to make a killing on this though

The problem is some fisherman are hurting through no fault of their own and some people are being paid that shouldn't be paid. When dealing with ANYTHING on the scale of this there are always going to be people on both sides of the isle that can point to examples that fit their arguments.
It is simply impossible to have anything done on this scale perfectly.
That said those fisherman that aren't being paid by BP because they haven't been paying there taxes like they should each year... well, I sure don't feel sorry for them. I think it is called poetic justice.

I don't think this spill was lame to all the people it put out of work. Tell that to the oyster fisherman that have been shut down and the shrimpers that had to sit out the may shrimp season (which brings in half of their income during the year).
Meh. Hard to get me to feel bad for a society of tax cheats.

Yeah some people aren't able to recover because they cannot prove the income.
In other situations, the tax return will reflect the gross total income for the year. However, BP is very likely subtracting overhead costs, (fuel, labor, expenses etc) from the gross total, since the overhead was not incurred to arrive at a net profit figure.
Some might not agree with the gross income being offset for overhead costs.

So you think every seafood business/fisherman is a tax cheat. That's a pretty big generalization.

It's obvious your career has not been derailed like about 10K other people (est). Using the word "lame" to describe what has happened is a bit over the top no? There are thousands of shrimpers, oyster & fisherman, businessowners, oilfield workers etc, who would punch you in your dick sucker for saying that this spill is "lame"...JMHO

It depends an exactly what you are talking about. The majority of those people were not hurt by the oil spill but instead by the reactions to the oil spill.
Reactions being shutting down offshore drilling despite the fact that it is more hazardous to do so. Media scaring people away from the coast when the beaches and water were safe. Govt shutting down fishing in waters that had no business being shut down or staying shut down.
[boring clarification: Yes some fishing should have been shut down etc etc. But in each case above the authorities to be made the damage much much worse than it needed to be.]

With all due respect, I think your trying to out think the room.
It's simple; all of the things stated are directly related to the oil spill that the OP calls "lame" and in my opinion the OP is a Penis Wrinkle for even starting this thread.

oilfield workers etc,
and now that everyone knows you can have a hundred day gusher in the middle of the gulf with little to no impact on the gulf, oil drilling will flourish.
the spill is relative the gloom and doom, it's the end of the world as we know it type of crap.
all of those people you are talking about are being inconvenienced at the moment. that is all.

Frozen shrimp(IQF) or imported shrimp?
Most grocery stores tend to use imported shrimp anyway.
It just boils down to this, some people don't care if it doesn't affect them. Our fishing industry has been decimated in the last 20 years due to industry regulations, natural disasters, and mainly imports. People want Louisiana seafood but aren't doing anything about it and one day it will be only a specialty item because most people are just concerned with price and will buy imports instead.
