But Obama is going to give 2 billion to the Brazilian oil company to fund exploration and drilling offshore there......
You can't make this shite up

The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil's Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil's planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan.

Some of the conspiracy theorists take a step further and say that he has a personal financial investment in Brazilian drilling.
Dunno what to make of it myself. The fact that the federal government tried to push the lawsuit to stop the moratorium back a month seems to suggest to me that even there isn't something with personal money....once those rigs are in contracts in Brazil, they are there for years, regardless if the moratorium gets lifted completely.

I don't buy into the conspiracy angle...I do know that once they have the money, combined with the moratorium, the rigs will move, period. This is essentially forcing the industry to Brazil. It's just a fricking shame.

I've been wondering about this for months. I'm in the ROV industry. Subsea 7 won a contract to provide 30 ROV systems to Petrobras in Brazil. Subsea 7 doesn't own 30 ROV's to provide. They would have to have them built by a third party. There also isn't 30 rigs to put these ROV's on. Only one other company could compete; and, actually stood a better chance because they build their own. Not sure why they didn't get it.
Bring in the moratorium. Rigs leave and head south. Problem solved.
Now we hear about the loan.
Further, Subsea7 has merged with Acergy to become a huge ROV provider world wide.
Not a consipiracy theorist; but, it sure does work out nicely for Petrobras and Subsea7/Acergy.
Glenn Beck spoke of Soros being heavily invested in Petrobras also.

It's called externalizing.
As in externalizing the costs of drilling in deep water.
You see, this way we can buy the oil from Petrobas instead of BP, but have all the danger and risk placed in Brazil's territorial waters.
That's how it works. We use the resources from other parts of the world and let them deal with the environmental destruction.
If it was BP drilling in US waters or Saudi Aramco drilling in the Persian Gulf or Petrobas dilling in Brazilian waters, oil costs the same.
We import a shitton of it every day. Most of it purchased from other countries or oil companies.
Doesn't matter where it comes from and to some folks its a better idea to pollute THEIR water instead of ours.
Externalizing costs. That's what its all about. AKA global free trade.

it actually does matter where it comes from, as transportation factors heavily into where oil is sold internationally. while the US does import huge quantities of oil, the majority of it comes from Canada and Mexico.

True, but how does it check out that if in fact we import more oil, that we will have many more tankers in our waterways, which are much more dangerous and apt to create a giant spill than a platform. And when a tanker drops a load, it's all at once not a trickle.

And that is why my Father in Law, working for Halliburton is in Rio de Janeiro. Answers that question.

Well, this is the deal. This is all in their grand scheme to turn us into Europe. Cripple our economy making us totally dependent on the government. And Brazil is not an Ally. They along with Turkey have agreed to assist Iran! The "annointed one" will not allow skimmers into the Gulf making this so horrific in order to push the green agenda. fricking alternative fuels and energy has been pushed by every administration since that Pookie Peanut Farmer Carter was in office. We can't get off of oil and the left knows it. So push the industry over seas on other countries and see how our enviornment magically gets better and alternatives start popping out of peoples asses like furry white RABBITS!!!
