The FEDS aren't doing more because there is nothing else to do.

BP is trying everything they can on the well. Exxon and Shell are helping as needed.

The only thing that can be criticised is the use of Corexit and the boom distribution. Those I don't have answers for except to say that Corexit is EPA approved. If it is so bad, WTF is it doing onthe approved list?

What should they being doing different? What should they have done and what could they have done to make today any different than the day before and the day before??

You sure weren't complaining when you were on the OT yesterday hootin and hollering about the skanks you were laying out with at the community pool at your apartment complex. Why are you so upset today?

How Many ships does our country have?

We could and should be doing more. Now granted the reality is there will be widespread death IMO to our marshes etc just the horrfic realities of Katrina. It saddens me with the resources we have along with the operator who does more deepwater e&p than any other company in the nation, that this all we do. It seems alot of talk and little action among all parties.

This situation from a federal standpoint is different, bc for terrible events like katrina the stafford act is the law and the states have to speerhead the response, but this occurred over federal waters and the response has been lackluster. It took big Janet what over a week to respond to it. That is inexcusable considering this was over federal waters. Yes BP has been incompetent with this as well

As for as yesterday, good times.

For starters, anything we do it seems that Bp, the states and Feds have to check with the EPA even to take a shite. Too much redtape and too many chiefs and not enough Indians in this fight.

Can you be more specific?

ETA: BP doesnt have to check with anyone, this is their fight they can do whatever the frick they want. So can the FEDS. So you tell me, what should they be doing that they arent doing and what should they have already done that they havent done.

Yet you are supporting a Parish President, who has 0 authority to make decisions, trying to become a hero by telling everyone to get out of his way?

I support him because he seems to be the only person that actually wants to do something proactive. bp and the government seem to be ok with letting all of the oil wash ashore.

I’m not an engineer or scientist and have no formal training with the spill. But just watching tv reports and listening doesn’t make you scratch your head.

Jefferson Parish had to commandeer skimmers that were sitting still off shore. A friend who is a fishing guide and helping with the cleanup says there are barges offshore with boom just sitting on it not being used.

The difference with BP and the fed vs the local leaders is that the local leaders have a vested interest in how this is done. Every single boat (and Louisiana has a lot) should be towing booms catching oil. You should be able to walk across the boats in places like Barataria Bay that are skimming. The cleanup effort should be beyond overkill as opposed to what we are seeing..

At some point in time, all booms were "sitting on barges". I hate when people take a still photo then try to display it as a current practice over an extended time.

I dislike BP as much as anyone. However, you have to be pretty damn naive to think they aren't doing their best to resolve this issue.

You don't get from 0 to 190 miles in 30 days by leaving oil booms "sitting on barges".

No dumb arse, that was this week.He was originally in Alabama helping spread boom there and is now in the Barataria area spreading boom.

He said in AL where he was helping, they have most places protected with 3 rows of boom. Obvioulsy there coast line is much different than ours.

I hate people who think they know everything.

There is a ton of boom "just" sitting in staging areas all over the coast from Lake Charles to Pensacola. What does that mean?

I would think more of it should be shifted to areas that are receiving oil now. As more comes off the production lines, that can go to the outer reaches of where "it might go" one day.

They said it might go up the east coast, should we send some of our boom there just in case.

My point earlier was that there is boom sitting off of the coast of LA that is not being used. Yet oil is flowing into Barataria bay and such. Why is it not being used to block it?

Anyone know if there is coordination (of any type) with the engineers of other major oil companies?

I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but would like someone to confirm.
