It looks like the ROV is trying to pick it up off the floor
A BOP is fricking huge. Not to meantion that if it did fall, there would be no real recovery.

sorry for my ignorance but whats BOP
Its the emergency shutoff value that didn't seal when it was supposed to and caused this whole thing to occur.
If it had been lost, it would be very, very, very, very bad.

Where is the top of the BOP that had all of the oil spewing out earlier? We havent seen any pics of this since the oil cloud:

Why is this thread anchored? It is the only one that actually really discusses what happened.

IDK...this is a HUGE development....it should be stickied.

Putting the LMRP back on the leak/BOP right now.

Yes...they are TRYING to! Its funny how BP magically turned off 80% of the flow!

What they've feared is that the segments along the casing would start to cave in (something the oil peeps call "communication"). My understanding is that once the BOP started to list or lean, it was a bad sign and the "hole" that was drilled and cased is essentially being blown out. Very bad news. The flow rate is really approx 125K barrels/day. Also learned that if the hole starts to cave (as it evidently has), it renders the releif well(s) moot. When they pump the mud in down the hole, it'll be just like pouring cement into a pool. Won't plug it at all. This well will flow for 2 years.

Ummm why did the camera just go out for a minute?

Link? Because the analogy seems lacking. When they try to dump mud from the relief well, they aren't trying to make something like a concrete plug that is suggested by our pool analogy.
They are trying to generate a column of dense material above it. While I can see how a collapsed wall would impair it, I don't see how it is automatically made "moot."

Its probably way more than that!

No, it isn't.
120k/day is probably close to what is even remotely possible on worst case conditions, what this is not.
Even if they removed the BOP, which provides a decent amount of back pressure, and just had a hole venting, the flow is estimated to be approximately 100k a day. And he is asserting WITH the BOP it is around 120 a day?

no way in hell a ROV or multiple ROVs can pick up something like this

There is no link. If I posted where I got this info from, you would understand that the info I posted has a very high liklihood of being correct.
I'm not some left wing nut job, like a few on this board are. I want drilling to resume immediately. I have nothing but disdain for Obama and I did not vote for him. This leak is worse than is being reported.
