Looks like he is trying to plug the hole with that stick

Damn why didn't they think of that earlier ? Just jam a stick in there and be done with it !

That shot is either the top of the riser up close - much closer than yesterday -- or another part of the pipe itself.

I don't get the multiple holes it is flowing out of now.

The bent riser at the top of the LMRP has been flowing like this for about 18 hours. No new holes.

have they showed the video angle that I was seeing yesterday, with the oil spewing out of the riser?

I haven't seen a view of it yet today. I understand that there is some mud flowing from it but there hasn't been signs of oil or gas.

May Sha just pick up dat der stick and stick it in da hole

That is a very plausible theory. However, my WAG is that it is a temperature probe. If they know the temp of the mud in, and they measure the temp of the mud out, they can probably get an idea how it is flowing.

I am wondering that myself... and why is mud coming out of multiple holes??

These are the holes at the top of the LMRP that have been there since the rig went down or before. There are no new holes since last night, at least not that I can see.

This is my guess, they are measuring something.

I bet it is temp. If you know the delta between mud temp in and mud temp out, you have an idea how it is flowing.

A definite possibility.....earlier reports of success were very premature.

This may still take a while or several tries.

How would they test for oil in the effluent?

Question to anyone who knows. The mud is dense, that is heavier than water. I also know that the ROV seems quite close. However, given the amount of time the mud has been spewing you would think the area would be quite murky, but that picture seems quite clear. Does anyone know why?

and it may be. I just tend to believe what my sources say over some scientist who isn't privy to all the data that my sources have.

That it could take a while and/or several tries. And I'm not trying to be a smart arse but that's how I got it.

My guess would be the temperature of the fluids is so high compared to the surrounding water its just rising straight up.
