actually the purdue researcher (100K BPD) is the foremost expert in the world regarding flow estimates.

and his estimates were talking total flow, which included gas, right?

Yes, I believe that was total flow and that was before they knew approximately how much gas is in the flow - although it varies quite a bit.

Purdue professor assists team in researching size of Gulf oil spill
June 1, 2010

A team of scientists and engineers, including Purdue University mechanical engineering professor Steven Wereley, released figures Thursday (May 27) showing that at least 12,000-19,000 barrels of oil are flowing daily into the Gulf of Mexico in the aftermath of an April 20 oil rig explosion. That means the BP PLC oil spill off the coast of Louisiana has already surpassed the Exxon Valdez as the worst in U.S. history, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

This link below gives you opinions on experts. Remember the flow of the fluids were restricted by the bent drill pipe (about 6" ID) and the riser (21" OD). He based his calculations on the flow of fluids, but there is no oil well in the world that can make 125K BODP. Not even in Saudi.

You can see the opinions of the "experts" on this page. The Purdue guy measured pixels and digitial information, I don't believe he accounted for the expansion of gas. The GOR (Gas to Oil Ratio) is very high on this well, so the calcuations would be very far off the weren't included.

Maybe. But it's pretty obvious that BP thinks it is a meaningful use of time to plant people to spew their propoganda on these message boards.

good thing nobody in your link estimated 125k bbl/day

and everyone who estimated 100k had huge margins of error because they were relying on the sparse data that BP was reluctant to provide

The highest any well in the gulf has ever free flowed is 40 bpd. This well has some restrictions so it should be somewhere below 40 for sure.

Not demanding more technical data but just updates. They said that by now we would be at optimal flow. But of course that was the original LMRP they planned to use. Has that changed with the new top hat??? Just answer some basic questions a couple of times a day or hell even once a day.

So I come back every 2 hours or so to check the live video feed and from what I see there are no new developments. Am I right or wrong?

None visible that I see either. A couple of yimes I have seen the flow go way down only to go back 2 blowing full bore 15-60 seconds later. Could be a temp. seal or something else???

The video shows a hell of a lot more than 40 bpd.

1 barrel = 42 gallons

It look like it's over 42 gallons a minute

Well they are sucking up 6,000 barrels a day as it is and it still looks like a geyser. Anyones guess but probably another 15K barrels/day is escaping

Subsea operational update:
On June 5, a total of 10,500 barrels of oil was collected and 22 million standard cubic feet of natural gas was flared.
• Optimization continues and improvement in oil collection is expected over the next few days.

I think we should give the USCG a big round of applause for shearing off the riser instead of taking the time to make a clean cut.
