Another example of stupid media not getting it right. The cap in the video was the original cap they wanted to use. It is not in use. They are using a different cap. This one has valves on top to help them regulate the pressure inside the cap.
The idiot in the video is working for one of the largest news outlets in the world and I know something about his presentation that he didn't even know. News media are idiots.

Seems like you could clamp it together with some sort of C Clamp, remove the bolts then unclamp it.
Those bolts are probably made to not come off so the only option would be to cut them off. That would be common sense. I have to think there is another reason the old riser flange could not be removed. At least I hope so.
And that is the problem. Why don't we get this information... because reporters are to stupid to ask a question like this.

why the hate? the guy was given in depth details it appears, but things changed.
big deal.

Someone help me out here. Wasn't there an announcement that came out during the diamond cutting process on BP's website that said the USCG made the decision to shear this thing?

Yes coast guard made that decision to shear instead of cut.
Why the hate? Because they get it wrong more than they get it right. Often offering stupid questions on why didn't BP do this when there is a good reason but the public doesn't get the information that the reporters assertion was wrong.
On this particular video half of the information comes from the old cap and half from the new. I guess they just make shite up because nobody ever calls them on it.
Now parts of his reports said they were going to put 22K pounds of downward pressure on the cap. But we don't know if this is the plan for the new cap or not because his report is so fricked up.
Is that still part of the plan???
This is the news people and they less credibility than the average poster on tigerdroppings. Sucks when you watch the news and you don't know if it is information that is flat out wrong or not.

How much oil you think they are pumping?

Is something new going on right now at Enterprise ROV 2?
Posted on 6/5/10 at 12:29 am to Loophole
Been cooking. Just took a look and it looks like less is coming out right now than before. Could just be that it is going out in different places????
Now I look and it looks the same as before. Did they lift it a bit and then put it back down? Looked like it was moved the instant my feed started so I am not sure what I saw.

I saw in the media that they were getting 1000 barrels a day, while BP's site says that they got 1810 barrels in the first 12 hours. Take your pick of who you want to believe. I don't really care either way. It's just a small fraction of what's spewing out, and I'm not getting my hopes up on that top-hat making much of a difference over the next two months. Hope I'm wrong.

Looked like the robot was turning a bright copper/brass valve/something a few minutes ago.

Turning the valves on top of the hat??? That would be a great sign. Didn't know if they had done that already or not.

Subsea operational update:
• The riser was cut above the LMRP with shears at approximately 9:00 am CDT
on June 3.
• The LMRP cap was placed on top of the LMRP at approximately 8:35 pm CDT
on June 3.
• Gas first reached the Discoverer Enterprise at approximately 11:00 pm CDT on June 3; oil followed at approximately
11:10 pm CDT.
• During the first twelve hours of operation, 1810 barrels of oil were collected as the LMRP Cap was carefully operationalized.

So basically 4000 barrels of oil will be captured a day by the tophat, leaving some 16,000 + barrels a day spewing?
Until the relief wells are completed - some 60 days from now?
Is this roughly correct?

Thanks...I sure hope you are right.
Although I wouldn't hold my breath.

In a week they will start capturing from the choke and kill lines. So hopefully in a week they will be capturing well over 50%. But nothing is guaranteed.

I don't know about the bolts on that riser but on our rig they are torqued to over 17,000ftlbs. I don't know if they have a torque wrench that strong that can operated in 5000ft of water.

Seeing a lot more of the top hat in the video right now. Hope that means that they are collecting more than before.

I have not seen it in days, but it looks like crap this morning.
