Anyone know what the blue hose with the quick disconnect is for?
Are they going to pump methanol through the C/K lines?

That would be my assumption.

Will methanol stop methane hydrates from forming?

I ABSOLUTELY know it did not work!
You don't know why. Neither do I. Throw whatever grenades you like. It ain't gonna change that.
All you know is that it did not seal in this case.

Good grief that cut makes me sick. It looks like they hacked it off with a dull old timer.

Hell, I understand the frustration. If it helps him to call me an a-hole, fire away.
The larger problem is that people and the media want a villain NOW! But nobody really knows what happened yet.
I have investigated a bunch of blowout cases. It ain't ever that simple.
So fire away, bubba. Ain't gonna help anything, and it ain't gonna change whatever the truth turns out to be.

I certainly hope so.
One thing that hasn't been discussed is the other end of the pipe (top side). If this works, can they divert the gas and "light it up"? Remember you are also adding methanol aka wood alcohol.
Hope nobody is smoking.

I know that and you know that Judge. That isn't justification enough to be a jerk to someone just because they know something about the industry.
For us in this industry we know just how complex what we do really is and how something like this only happens when many, many things go wrong. There can't be just one cause or one scapegoat. So the people who want a villain are just frustrating themselves.

If they are flowing into an FPSO, it will have separators and a flare boom. They have to do something with it at surface.

You are so right, redstick.

On the Q4000 ROV 1 feed, is that the top end of the top hat or some other device. It's been sitting there for about as long as the top hat.

The could put it on a flare but I'm not really sure how they will go about it since they won't be capable of holding much back pressure.

Enterprise can burn off the gas.....and seperate the oil/water.
Gas and oil will take a couple hours to reach the surface once this is hooked up.

Enteprise is a short term solution.........FPSO needs to be brought in IMHO

This is why we should move to natural gas. As I've said here before, if this had happened in a gas well, you would just send Boudreaux out in a batteau with a flare gun to light it up.
(Ok, I know that is not realistic, but I like the image.)

Green fluid coming out of the blue hose. Methanol? That ROV has been working with quick disconnects for a while. Maybe now he is going to hook it up on C/K line.
