is it just me or is there no sense of urgency from BP?

This is a cluster frick of epic proportions and it seems there is no sense of urgency from BP or from the feds. I would be throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the well at this point but it seems that there is just a bunch of finger pointing and BP trying to spend money to protect their image (see donating to catholic church and food banks). I know it is not that simple of a problem, but damn, one would think a month later there would be some progress.
Its been a month now and no progress at all. Say all you want about that little tube they inserted. That is barely making a dent. See my comment above about PR. BP can say look what we did: we inserted this tube to remove a bit of the oil. I would have rather them spend their time worrying about how to close the well completely than spending weeks on inserting this tube.
Just my $.02 worth.

I don't see urgency from anyone but state and local government but that is just what we see from the media. Who knows what is going on.

nothing is going on because BP and the feds still don't know what to do. It seems that any new technique they try has a good chance it won't work and we should all cross our fingers. they have no idea what to do.

It does seem like that at times I agree. I don't think there is anyone in the world who would want this stopped more than BP, so I am sure they are doing what they can as fast as possible.

do you really believe this? do you really believe than anyone at BP wants this to continue as long as possible? do you really believe that anyone from the MMS, who are being portrayed unfairly as schills for oil companies, wants this to keep going?
every single person associated w/ oil & gas exploration and production in the gulf of mexico wishes this never happened. and if the phone rang this second asking me to help in anyway, i would do it in a heartbeat.

They are spending 2 million per day drilling the two relief wells, which is the ultimate solution, and this was started almost immediately. Try to find a parking place at any BP facility, they literaly have 14,000+ people working on alternative solutions. Any attempt to shut in or completely cut off the well has to have a 100 percent chance of success, failure could leave the flow at a 100 times what it is now. You want them to just roll the dice any try it?

It's cool to be at wits end about this. It's cool to be angry and want BP to pay more than just financially.
And I'm with you. Especially if anything comes up showing this was done out of cutting corners, cost or negligence.
I've been on the clean up side before when I worked Bay Marchand. Coming from someone who has been on the inside of a job like this (we never had anything close to the quantity being spilled, and our biggest spill was probably one that spilled less overall than what the BP well is spilling per hour) I can state for a certainty that they are doing everything possible as quickly as possible.

BP would do themselves a favor if they provided a little more info on why things take so long. I know its deep, and its complicated, but other than that, thats about all we're being told. For example, why is it going to take until Sunday to try the topkill? I relaize there has to be all kinds of complicated shite they have to figure out but it sure would help if they provided a little more details. Because the way it looks now is that they didn't even consider this could possibly happen, they had no plan to stop it, and they are just all standing around looking at each other
'ing.

I would think if they had technology to drill oil at those depths and in order to do so they would have the technology to have everything in place to remedy the situation.

i agree w/ this, but i think another issue is the media's willingness to report it. i'm not saying there's any kind of journalistic conspiracy, just that this shite is complicated and cannot be simply explained in 2 or 3 sentences. i don't know that the column inches in newspapers or time allocated during the news is sufficient to fully relay the issues in play.

the remedy was to never have this situation based on the casing design, cement design, other associated equipment design, training of the crews, training of the supervisors, the primary functionality of the subsea BOP (functioned by a person at surface, the backup functionality of the BOP (an emergency disconnect initiated by someone at surface), and finally the deadman functionality of the BOP when it lost communication w/ the surface.
obviously, this was not sufficient, as multiple systems have failed (or not functioned as designed).

I agree with this as well. I do think a problem has arisen from the fed government wanting to let BP be in control, since they are "paying" for it and it is ultimately their fault. But it almost has been taken too far.
An article this morning was talking about how Jindal wanted to start building levees around some of the fresh water marshes. But they were waiting on the Corp of Engineers go ahead to start. And they weren't sure what was taking them so long to make a decision. Just f-ing do it.
