Newest GFS is roughly 10-15 miles west of prior run.

10 mb stronger though. 970 at landfall in Terrebonne Parish with center passing over NOLA.

So waiting on HWRF and Euro to see if they stick with a similar strengthed solution too.

Fine details of landfall location aren't going to be knowable until the last wobbles, so not really going to stress too much on little shifts within models unless they are outside of a far SELA strike.

Going to be pulling the night shift again, so going to be up to watch the models roll in overnight.

ETA: Josh Morgerman in the eye and reporting pressure of 979 mb. I assume his equipment is well calibrated, so it would appear some strengthening happened post recon. Hurricane is now inland over the Yucatan.

Now. It's going to be a fast mover, so you'll go from nice weather to 4-6 hours of TS to maybe hurricane conditions and then nice again by Thursday morning but the modeling is pointing to a stronger system that isn't going to weakened as much as expected even yesterday. Feature that is turning it and was expected to weaken it looks a little too slow to do the second part.

I'd probably stay somewhere in Houma Wednesday night. Hopefully it slides east enough where the impacts down that way are slight.

Outflow starting to expand to the NW of Zeta just as it makes landfall. Sign the northerly shear that's been pushing on it is basically gone at this point. Presents for a light shear environment through Wednesday morning for Zeta.

It'll take some time to re-moisten the surface boundary layer once Zeta comes off the Yucatan, so don't expect it to just strengthen rapidly tomorrow. I'd expect the second strengthening phase to start Tuesday night and into early Wednesday. Very much like Delta did.

ETA: 00z HWRF nailed the initial conditions. Should be a useful run to watch for storm structure.

This was how it was at 11:27 pm: ripping pretty good. Starting around 11:45, rain & wind seemed to lose their edge a bit. But as of 11:55, pressure hasn't recovered a whole lot—only up to 983.4 mb. Gradient on backside doesn't seem especially steep. (Well, it's a Cat1.) #ZETA
