You’ve never been through hell until your dog gets into it with a skunk.

Love my boy, but he’s a curious bastard. Went and sniffed his version of a “weird looking dog” and all hell broke loose.
At first, the wife and I thought someone was smoking weed next door. Then the dog came inside and it smelled like incredibly strong garlic bread.
That may sound good, but after 30min you’ll never want garlic bread again.
frick skunks.
That is all

Bath the dog in tomato juice.

I’m sure some war veterans would beg to differ.

Yup. Been through that as well. It sucks. Tried shampoo, tomato sauce, and a whole lot of scrubbing. Nothing really worked.

Lather him with a mix of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish soap or shampoo. Rinse, repeat. Make sure to rinse his eyes really good.

I let the dogs out the other night and the pup saw a skunk and attacked it
Rather than kill it, he started jumping up and down on it.
I walked outside with a gun, shouted at him to get away. And shot the skunk.
As he ran back in to see what I shot... I took a solid 5 seconds to decide whether to kill him too.
The older dog was just standing on the porch. Damned near shaking his head
To get skunk off, don't wet the dog. Coat the dog in VO5 or dawn. Be sure to wear gloves. Coat him. Nose to tail.
Wait about 5 minutes and then wash him off.
Bathe him a fee times after that. He'll only smell like skunk when he gets wet after that.

How many days will the smell linger, after getting wet?

This is what we did. Twice. He smells fine, but that skunk shite is circulating action around in our HVAC.
Worst shite ever

Gotta love skunks. That’s a next level Mother Nature frick you defense system that lives after they’ve been eliminated.

Eww that sucks I love my dogs but they’d be sleeping outside for a while after meeting up with a skunk.

Every time he gets wet until he's dry. For a few weeks

Ran over one in PA on my SxS. It stunk for a month. Bleach, tomato juice, nothing worked. Finally drove into a creek and let it bathe for 30 min. Smell slowly went away after that for a few weeks

The Peroxide, baking soda, and dish soap is correct. Make sure it is the 3% Peroxide and don’t leave it on your dogs fur for too long.
Use regular pet shampoo right after. Worked great for our old gal.

My Aussie and the Jack Russell I had in high school - both skunk killers who just get extra violent when they get sprayed.
The last time my Aussie sprayed I was at the farm in Texas I also got blasted. We both went to the horse washroom with Dawn and tomato juice. On the drive back, we smelled and made the car smell like we were in a Cheech and Chong movie.
