Youtube Revenue - how good is it?

I don't really subscribe to channels on youtube, but I do follow a few pretty regularly and they have from a small number of subscribers to over 1M in some cases.
It seems like most of these folks are young, and vlogging every day, mostly from one vacation type item to another, or an expensive project or another, and it seems it never stops.
It seems like in most cases, they don't have another job that they ever mention, so does Youtube revenue pay that good when you reach X number of subscribers and have ads on your videos that it's your full time job?

Actual revenue apparently varies wildly, but yeah, if each of your videos is getting millions of views you're making some nice coin.
I think you need to be averaging at least in the hundreds of thousands of views per week to make a living though. I think ad revenue is way down though. Some Youtubers make quite a bit selling merchandise as well.

If you go through his videos every month he does a breakdown of his earnings and how much per view he is getting and shite like that. He make 24k on youtube fishing videos. I'd love to be able to make that off of my fishing trips.

A few years back I read that 1 millions views pays about $2k and then youtube gets half of that. I never understood why youtube would take half of the 2k.
Here's a calculator I just found:

I think there are also other things to consider besides ad revenue. There are sponsorships, product placement, and merchandise. My friends younger brother gets paid to travel by hotels and resorts and post about it on his lifestyle blog. It's a weird world out there.

Roughly, a video creator will earn $2,000 for every million views. And then YouTube takes 45 percent

If you look at how many mid-size Youtubes are begging for money on Patreon now, my guess is the revenue is not that great unless you're a channel with a million subscribers or more.

Daily uploads sometimes multiple daily with 50M+ views. Also sponsorships and merch sales. All adds up quickly.

You may not see Daniel Middleton walking down a red carpet, but he is a celebrity in a league of his own. With nearly 17 million followers, a world tour that included four sold-out nights at the Sydney Opera House and over 11 billion views on YouTube, gamer DanTDM, as he is known to his fans, ranks as the world’s highest-paid YouTube star of 2017 with $16.5 million—the highest of any YouTube star since Forbes started keeping track in 2015.

My preteen grandson in Sacramento has a friend in the neighborhood who rakes in the cash on YouTube vid. $300-400K annually is what they say. Wow?

It's all about popularity as said, once you reach certain levels of popularity just like being any kind of celebrity there are revenue streams at every angle. Sponsorships, paid for attending events, YouTube views, etc.

Really depends on patreon donations for the smaller players, but there are plenty I follow who appear to make a living with 30,000 to 50,000 followers so those folks with millions are making a comfortable living probably just on the ads.
Problem is last year, Youtube started flagging and demonetizing videos they deemed inappropriate. Folks relying on ads alone, got crushed a bit. Any cursing... boom, no ads.
Some folks I watch who don't curse, don't discuss politics, don't have copyrighted music playing, had their videos demonetized. Their videos could be watched by a 3 year old with no problem. Seems like youtube is using an algorithm to demonetize vids and sometimes it just screws people.

Youtube is a giant bubble waiting to burst. I almost cannot think of a more unstable ground upon which to build a career.

Deermeatfordinner doesnt have a job, he's married to a hot chick, fishes and hunts or goes crabbing about everyday. I guess he's making enough to support his lifestyle. Makes me kind of envious. I don't think youtube is paying as much as they use to.
One guy who I watch who breaks down his youtube pay is Key West Kayak. Here's a video on one of his youtube paychecks. He made $24,600 from you tube fishing videos last year with 85,000 subscribers.

pretty close here. but there's also brand deals, not just merch sales. if you do a sponsored video, those things can get surprisingly lucrative. on top of the success from youtube as a social media you can also spread that to other social medias like instagram/twitter. although twitter doesn't pay shite, instagram can for sure. thousands for just ONE sponsored pic etc. for some people it could reach up to 10's of thousands for 1 pic.
what's more is that the advertisers are getting their money's worth. kids online have gotten to feel like they know the personalities behind the camera b/c they have followed them so long... the ones on camera are who they are, they're not actors paid to make a character funny/entertaining. the reasons advertisers pay this much is because of the trust the content providers have established with their fans.
it's a really interesting new deal going on.

Can make money on Instagram too. I know of someone that just post stock images of shoes. Once he got up to several thousand follows he was able to get a lower level celebrity to follow him. Once that happen he blew up to 100s of thousands of followers.
Nike and all the retailers now send him shoes for free and he takes pics and post them. Makes six figures a year

It's a full job, if you plan on making money.
And youtube screws so many over with its new demonetizing filters.
I'm shocked we haven't seen more younger people going nuts off of losing their youtube $$$ from the new youtube guidelines. Many of younger people went all in on being youtube or twitch stars for their careers.
