After a softball team from Virginia won a semifinal game against a team from Washington, a Snapchat was posted with six of the Virginia girls telling the team from Washington they "were number one"

Tournament officials have disqualified the team and places the Washington team in the televised championship game.

That punishment, on the surface, seems a bit excessive

Scorched earth policy.

I feel little sympathy for the perps but that's a harsh penalty.

You won!! But since a couple players were untasteful, you actually lost. Seriously.

Hate speech needs to be punished. Hopefully they get charges pressed as well.

Oh shite, didn't realize they were white girls. This seems pretty excessive to do to some kids goofing around.

Seems harsh, but there are too many players in the picture to just suspend the ones involved.

Punishment was justified. Kids need to be taught there are consequences for dumb decisions.

I'm torn on this. It does seem harsh but today's youths seem to think there are no consequences for anything they do online or on social media. These girls will probably think twice before posting things in the future which is a good thing. Maybe suspending the girls involved would be better but that would probably mean not enough players would be eligible.

does this mean Justin Verlander has a perfect game now because the 1st base ump did a hand signal he should not have done?
