That being said, should you come into possession of a $500 bill, you'd be crazy to buy anything with it. Its market value far exceeds its face value, with even worn $500 bills commanding upward of a 40% premium on the open market.

I came into a $500 bill 1934 in pretty good condition 2 years ago. Some chick at the casino. Casino would not take it, I bought it off her. Its in good shape and yes worth about $700. However it was worth $700 20 years ago as well. So I do not see the value increasing much. I might take $750 if I was offered that.

If you wanted to make a mid-major purchase of something one might buy with cash in 2016 - say, a UHD television, you might spend $1500 to $2000 (or more), easily. You would need 75 to 100 bills, plus tax, if the max denomination was $20.

Just to play devils advocate, think about how inconvenienced this would make criminal activity. Additionally, it discourage cash transactions at businesses which are incredibly inefficient and has a measurable cost to GDP. Lastly, the lack of cash transactions in business would decrease the tax cheats that are rampant across this country.

That thing looks incredibly fake on the back. I'm not questioning its authenticity, but rather its original design.

Oh, I hear you, but it is very Big Brother to be forced into electronic transactions with little recourse. Having a cop follow every person around would knock a huge dent out of crime, but it wouldn't be a pleasant way to operate.

That's why the proposed national sales tax is attractive, too. It would capture a lot of unreported income, as it will get taxed when spent.

$2 bills are still in circulation and still being printed. Just ask for them at the bank.

I've noticed a lot of strip clubs only give out $2 bills as change these days

And to the guy who said the back of the $500 looks fake, I totally agree. It looks like monopoly money.

When I was growing up in the 1950s I went to the bank where my aunt worked. She let me see and handle a $10,000 bill.
