What about liquid vitamins?
same thing.
the studies john hopkins researchers did concluded your body only derives nutrients & vitamins from...wait for it....ACTUAL FOOD.
the multivitamin industry would have you believe otherwise.

quote:Vitamin companies don't claim anything. Because a multivitamin doesn't do anything. There's no added benefit to extra vitamins, because our bodies have an absorption limit. And if you live in America, you don't have to worry about not getting enough vitamins as long as you eat a balanced diet. Certain rare medical conditions are the exception.
Do the vitamin companies claim otherwise?

If we just went back to a plant based diet instead of a meat & grain diet, the world would be a healthier, happier place.

neither can it derive and use any actual vitamins from a pill. you just piss and poop the vitamins out.
I had a wart on my finger that came back even after I had it treated by a dermatologist, I started taking vitamin e and it went away and never came back. The glucosamine chondroitin I take completely changes how my knees feel after years of tennis abuse. One of my daughters has a bunch of allergy issues and her nails were really flimsy, multivitamin fixed them up in just a week or two. So there are 3 examples. Believe what you want.

In 2008, SELECT was abruptly terminated when the researchers determined that vitamin E supplements offered no protection against prostate cancer. In fact, data from the study hinted that taking vitamin E might actually increase risk for the disease.
As a precaution, the researchers continued to follow the men and track their health, even though they had quit taking the supplements. In 2011, the SELECT researchers reported a troubling discovery in the Journal of the American Medical Association: Men who had taken 400 IUs of vitamin E daily for an average of 5.5 years increased their risk for prostate cancer by 17 percent.
What should you do if you take vitamin E? No one is sure why high doses of vitamin E might promote prostate cancer. However, there now appears to be little reason to use vitamin E. Some limited research does suggest that vitamin E supplements might ease symptoms of certain conditions, including Alzheimer's disease and age-related macular degeneration. But these potential benefits must be balanced against the modest risk that high doses of vitamin E could trigger prostate cancer.

So the vitamin companies claim that they will help some conditions and make you feel better sometimes. Why did this study test about cancer and mortality? Do people actually believe that you won't die or get cancer if you take vitamins?

All of this research is such crap. If it would have said 500 percent, then it would be a relationship. They could just run the same research again 5 years later and find a 17 percent difference. That's nothing.

I order all my vitamins from Amazon. I know a reputable company like Amazon wouldn't sell sugar pills marketed as vitamins

I don't know. People who eat unbalanced and deficiently must be very poor, mentally ill, or they're just dumb I guess. Those people aren't taking multivitamins. If you're referring to obesity and over-eating, that's an unrelated issue.

and your anecdotal story that vitamin E cured a wart isn't?

please cite me the studies proving a benefit.
here's a hint: the only study CENTRUM can come up with to support their multivitamin is from an ITALIAN STUDY done in 2008

wouldn't you expect such a household name as Centrum to cite DOZENS and DOZENS of official data from all the studies done by US Researchers?
Oh Centrum

People make bad decisions. Donuts are delicious. And a multivitamin solves nothing.

irrelevant to the discussion.
the question on the table is not whether we get enough vitamins in our diet, rather does the snake oil multivitamin companies sell actually provide these missing nutrients.
studies have shown they are essentially no different than sugar pills and the folks on here who have been duped for years can't stand to face the facts they've been duped.
