Wonder how this applies to a 2 parent household where one of the parents is killed. Will they have to pay half of what child support would be?

Regardless, hope it keeps our streets a bit safer.

Like Governor Jeff Landry's new Ten Commandments in the schools law, there are a lot of potentials for intense discussions here, some of which have already been mentioned. There's a lot of ifs and what-abouts lying in wait.

Perhaps they could just impose the death penalty, prohibit purchase at the liquor store, and close all the bars 3 days before Christmas through New Years. That might work.

As an alternative, maybe we could teach our children some personal responsibility.

Texas is becoming more weird by the day.

We really need to go to nationwide self driving cars as soon as possible. The amount of car crash deaths will drop to almost zero.

Or you could make cities more pedestrian—and biker-friendly so there are fewer cars, nuking the suburbs in the process.

More Tech Bro "solutions" are not what the world needs.

As crazy as that sounds, I really wouldn't put it past a lot of people.

I get it, good intent, but how is someone likely to be going to jail going to pay child support?

In most cases probably not, but, you could have someone who's rich, or, someone who somehow gets a shorter prison sentence.

Dwi’s are a fricking money grab for the most part. Wanna eliminate dwi’s? Put an interlock into every car no matter what. But Leo would be against this because then that would stop their revenue stream.

Zero percent that happens.

100% chance that the majority of cars will be self driving within a generation. Maybe less. And we’ll all be much safer for it.

this video addresses exactly that issue. Great watch.

You mean, teach kids not to let their parents get killed by drunk drivers? B/c the children involved here are the ones left parentless by drunk driving.

And you think Texas is weird?

He’s not wrong. They don’t set up DWI check points to keep people safe. They do it for the money. This should be considered an endorsement for drinking and driving. Drinking and driving is a terrible and dangerous but not the reason they pull people over for it.

Maybe you should think about how fricked up your life will become before you drive drunk?

You completely missed the point. You can’t drain blood from a stone no matter how much the stone deserves it.

At what rate? The drunk earns 15k a year but kills a man who makes 800k a year who leaves behind 3 kids and a horny widow. How much is the child support? Remember, gooooooooooooooooooooberment will do anything to earn that 12% it makes off of the Child Support payments.

Do you really think it is about the chirren?
