I grew up in Dayton, Ohio but recognize it as a shithole. Love the place, but it's shitty. This type of ambivalence seems fairly common amongst those who leave their home state to never return.

I still live in Louisiana (New Orleans), but visiting my home town (and the rest of the state for that matter) is pretty terrible.
I was in my home town this past weekend, and I swear every time I passed by the McDonalds there was a line wrapped around the building.
