In the right setting, cigar and pipe smoking has an elegance to it.

Cigarette smoking is done by people who don't have air conditioning in their cars.

I don't have an exact reason, but I tend to view vaping as more disgusting than regular smoking. Maybe it's the type of person I typically see doing it....maybe it's the single serving of a cigarette vs sucking on the same mouth piece over and over and likely never cleaning it, like that old guy at the office with coffee stains still on the same dirty cup from 1982.

Both are disgusting, but vaping is another level of disgusting to me.

So as I understand it, vaping is water vapor. I wonder if or how vaping contributes to the spread of airborne illnesses?

You inhale water vapor. Maybe you have a respiratory infection and the bacteria/viruses cling to the vapor as you exhale, thereby spreading disease in ways cigarette smoking doesn't.

With cigarette smoking, you inhale heated air which may kill or weaken the bugs, contributing less to the spread of airborne disease? Or maybe the bugs struggle to cling to the particulates in the smoke?

Yeah but I bet he'd be willing to give anything to quit. He's probably addicted and either on a failed attempt to quit or on the cusp of quitting. Not many people out there with a good mind make the decision to say frick it and smoke regardless of health concerns. Especially a doctor.

I find it to be the opposite. The middle class is snobbish about it now, but the too rich to give a frick crowd are still blowing their joes. Look at everyone in Hollywood and the music industry. You can find a recent picture of any fine celebrity smoking.
