I strongly encourage people to go read about George Washington. That man had to deal with some incredible circumstances. Weather, lack of troops, lack of funding, and not to mention an angry monarch looking to wreck revenge on your new nation.

Since you took Patton, I'll go with General Robert E. Lee.
He was torn between his loyalty for his country and his love for his state. I'd like to discuss this in detail.
Plus his skillfulness as a tactician and battlefield commander, winning most of his battles, nearly all against far larger Union armies.
I would find it to be an interesting conversation.
